Can't get subtitles

Hello, I’m struggling to get subtitles to work, I’ve followed this https://support.plex.tv/articles/201447956-how-do-i-get-subtitles-to-work/ but in the player when I click on subtitles It’s just shows “None”. I’ve been to the settings under “Agent” and made sure my opensubtitles login is correct also.

I’m using Plex server on a Shield TV connected to a NAS.

Can anyone help?

OpenSubtitle.org
For subtitles from opensubtitles.org, you have to refresh the metadata for each library after enabling things in the Agent settings. In Plex Web or Plex Media Player, mouse over the name of a library. Click on the three dots that appear to the right of the library name. Select “Refresh All Metadata.” The subtitles will start downloading. It may take minutes/hours depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the libraries. The subtitle files are downloaded into the area where Plex stores media metadata, not into the same folder as the movie/TV show. They appear as external subtitles when you choose them during playback.

Embedded Subtitles
The Shield plays embedded VOBSUB/PGS subtitles from DVD/Blu-ray rips w/o issue. Also SRT subtitles that have been muxed into the MKV/MP4 file (not sure about ASS or other formats).

External Subtitles
If you are using external subtitles, make sure you follow the correct file naming structure for both media and subtitle files. Straying from the suggested structure can result in the Plex client not seeing the subtitle file. See the External Subtitle section of Local Media Assets.

Example:

/Movies
   /Avatar (2009)
      Avatar (2009).mkv
      Avatar (2009).eng.ass

The Media Preparation section of the docs has additional information WRT TV shows, etc.

Note
Make sure text based subtitles, whether embedded or external, are in UTF-8 format. Subtitle Edit (free) has a bulk convert feature if you need to convert multiple files. It is also a good program for converting VOBSUB/PGS to SRT/ASS/etc format.
