Can't get this to work

I set up my TV, it is connected to the internet & my LAN
I set up PLEX Server (I THINK!) on my PC,
But nothing can see the server???
MY TV doesn’t see it,
My smart phone which has X-plore that handles DLNA doesn’t see it…

What do I do now to move forward?

What Operating System do you have on your PC?
If you’re on Windows and the Plex Media Server is running, you should see the Plex icon in the task bar. If it’s running you should be able to access your server via a browser on your PC using https://127.0.0.1:32400/web (127.0.0.1 or localhost refer to your own computer).

If there’s no Plex icon or nothing to access via the address above…
Can you please explain the steps you took to do the install on your PC?

I run Linux Mint
I downloaded the software & installed it.
Nothing untoward happened.
The software loads, I added my films and music directories…
Everything SEEMS to be working, but I don’t know how to check if I’ve actually got a running server!
I know I can run the application in my browser (Chrome) but is that the actual server?
I thought the server would run in the background…

It does run in the background.
The browser access is just a different means of accessing it – an alternative client application so to say.

When you can access the Plex Media Server via Plex Web in your browser, you should also be able to access it with another Plex Client in your home network. If you don’t want to use an actual Plex Client but an existing DLNA client, make sure you have DLNA activated.

  • in Plex Web, click on Settings
  • in the left navigation, scroll down to your server name and click Settings > DLNA
  • Make sure the checkbox for Enable the DLNA server is checked

Yeah, that’s one of the things I checked.
The “Enable DLNA server” tickbox is ticked.

In that case Plex should show up in your DLNA client (you could use VLC on your regular PC/notebook to check). If it doesn’t… could there be an issue with a firewall on your Linux server or router?

Can you tell me how to use VLC to check for the existence of the server?
I know VLC & use it all the time, but I can’t find anything to do with DLNA on it…

with VLC 3 you’ll find Universal Plug'n'Play in the Local Network section of the navigation bar (left). Any DLNA or UPnP media server should show when you’re clicking on that.

I remember there had been some issues with VLC 2 and Plex DLNA (resulting in the server entry showing with a little warning icon and not properly opening); with VLC 3 this used to work better.
