Cant grant permissions to access local network on new iPhone

Hi,

I have quite a strange issue. I am using plex on different devices (apple-tv, windows and mac browsers, iPhones and iPads etc…). All with no issues.
Couple of days ago i installed the plex app on a new iPhone 14 Pro and logged in. Everything seemed fine at first but when I actually wanted to check something in my library i noticed the plex doesnt have access to my plex server. So its showing just the basic “there-is-no-server” screen with the free plex movies etc…

After some research I quite quickly found out that the plex app on my new phone simply lacks the option to grant it permissions for accessing the local network. The option in Settings => plex is simply not there.

I removed the app, reinstalled, restarted the phone, reinstalled again… all to no prevail.
The same app version on all my other iOS devices provides that option and works just fine.

Thankful for any advice!

Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#: 8.14

I have the same problem with my 14 pro, there is no permission available to grant local network access. Running iOS 16.3.

In the meantime the plex app on my new phone is working. I restarted the windows machine that’s running the plex server and that’s it.
Don’t know why is working now because there still are no settings on the new phone for granting plex access to the local network.

So what exactly did we learn here?

I have a similar issue but iOS Plex app finds my server but won’t cast.
What might help you: The only time I get the local network option for Plex in settings is when I click the cast button when in the Plex app - then it prompts to allow access to local network then the local network setting shows up in iOS settings under Plex.

However when I click the cast button and look at the logs it appears that the local access is not granted….

Similar issues. I moved from an iPhone 12 Pro (where everything worked fine) to an iPhone 14 Pro, and first off couldn’t connect to the server until I restarted it, now I can’t download/sync media to my device, and I can’t chromecast either.

I’ve tried everything, reinstalled, restarted, checked local network permission, it just doesn’t work.

Repeat, all the above worked on my iPhone 12 Pro, and still works on my iPad.

I also believe even though the app asks for permission to local network, and is given it, something isn’t working.

I also can’t add my server manually in the advanced settings, the same on my iPad.

Super frustrating and have had to install a free opensource competitor, Jellyfin, to resume normal service, not sure why anyone would continue paying for Plex, as many others here with the same sentiment have said, you keep adding things we don’t want (live tv, apps, discovery, etc) and ignore the getting the basics right. Such a shame, I was such a fan of Plex.

Same issue here with iPad Mini…brand new install, never prompts to allow for local network access

Can we please get the iOS logs after a fresh install while on the local network

Any update on this? Same issue with my iphone - no plex in local network access. IPhone 13 running iOS 16.5 (20F66)

Here is what I have from the phone.
I uninstalled the app and then reinstalled it. I had to be on my home network for the initial sign in - so the laptop running the server and the phone were both on the internet.
I then switched the laptop and the phone to the mini-network with no internet. Opened the app again and tried to access the server and that is when it told me the server is offline (the red box saying “offline”)

So the router I use has this as the default IP: http://192.168.8.1/
The range for the LAN is 192.168.8.100 to 192.168.8.249
The server “Surface2Laptop” is 192.168.8.172

anyone have any ideas?

fix should be released soon

@walkhalily @bazz127 @defiance360 @water321 @jpcjguy if you have access to beta 8.23, please could you check whether you are still experiencing the issue? Thanks!
