Server Version#: DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 6
Player Version#: 1.32.7.7621-7000
I updated my synology to synology version 7 yesterday. This seemed to break my plex server. I updated to the version 7 specific version of synology.
When I try to open the synology app it says “The connection was reset” after loading for ages. When I go to the app it says that my server is currently unavalible.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attatched the logs
When you upgrade to DSM 7, the entire Plex configuration changes.
(we were required to change the Shared Folder and Username in addition to rewriting all the control scripting underneath inside the package)
This means:
Username – PlexMediaServer
Shared Folder - PlexMediaServer
Permissions - PlexMediaServer
Delete User - Plex
There is a process (sorry about this) where you
Grant full control of your “Plex” shared folder to the new username “PlexMediaServer” (for ALL SUBFOLDERS AND FILES – IMPORTANT)
You will uninstall and erase the existing DSM 7 installation
– Or uninstall the app and DELETE the PlexMediaServer shared folder
I have a how-to which shows you the steps to “migrate” from DSM 6 → DSM 7 complete with screenshots
With everything cleared, as the DSM 7 app installs, installation will process all the files in your “Plex” server shared folder, prepare them for DSM 7, and then move them to the new PlexMediaServer shared folder.
It will sit at “Installing” while all this takes place (Don’t interrupt it or refresh)
When it’s all done, You’ll grant the new username PlexMediaServer permission to read your media.
