Can't Login to Synology Server after changing password

Server Version#:1.26.2.5797-7000
Player Version#:

I am no networking maven but I know my way around a forum and am having a nightmare with PMS on my Synology DS1520+ running DSM 7.0.1-42218 Update 3
I received an email yesterday about an unknown login which didn’t look right to me so I changed my password fro my phone thinking I would log back into the server when I got home. I have been receiving the various Not Authorized messages for the past couple days no matter what I do. I have tried to reclaim the server and that hasn’t worked so I am now to the point where I am trying to just do a clean install after uninstalling and deleting the Shared PlexMediaServer folder. Is there a way to just uninstall all files on my NAS and just start completely over?

@jethornton1

The Synology package has a built in method for recovering

  1. Uninstall the package with the KEEP (default) option
  2. Now install the same version SPK again
  3. SELECT the “Plex Claim Token” method
  4. Click the link “Get Plex Claim Token”
  5. Your browser will open and you will be presented with a claim token
  6. COPY that to your browser
  7. return to the Installer menu page…
  8. PASTE the claim (claim-xxxxxxxxx) token string into the window.
  9. Click NEXT - NEXT and let it install.
  10. This requires 15-20 seconds longer to install (on average) than a regular install.
    – It’s communicating with Plex.tv to update your credentials in Preferences.xml (which got out of sync when you change the password without signing out all devices)
  11. When the installer completes, if everything is correct, it will report success
–AND-- that it’s been again claimed to your Plex username.

Now you can continue normally.

Thank you for the quick reply. I was able to reinstall and now I am not receiving the Not Authorized error messages but I am unable to either find my old server or start a new one or add libraries. I can see shared libraries but nothing of my own. I have gone into DSM and made sure to give PlexMediaServer Full Control to my shared folders and still no luck.

Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

Make sure you see your server there (check the “Last Seen” time to make sure)

If you have a duplicate, REMOVE the oldest. Keep the most recent.

After you’ve made certain to clear up servers list.

Go back to your Synology, Open it again by it’s LAN IP address

Hit Control-F5 after you’ve opened PMS to force refresh the left panel list contents.

Hi thanks again, I only see the one current server. When I try to refresh using methods you give me, I am still not seeing any thing else in the left panel. When you say open by LAN IP address, I am opening Plex through this link in DSM correct?

69.228.130.44 is a PUBLIC IP address.

That URL looks like you have QuickConnect enabled. QuickConnect prevents Plex from completing the initial setup (DSM 7 changed (broke) how those links work)

When you go to Control Panel - Network

What is the LAN IP of your Synology?

This is the address you use – unless you are remote from it.
Are you remote?

When I look at Plex.tv, normally there is an IP address assocated.
This confirms the setup owner claiming handshake isn’t complete.

Yes I do have QuickConnect enabled. Should I disable QuickConnect to finish setting up Plex?

My LAN IP for my Synology is 69.228.130.44

I am not remote. On my home network.

What is the LAN IP of your computer?

192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, or 172.16.x.x-> 172.31.x.x ?

Yes, disable QuickConnect for now.

Disabled QuickConnect. The LAN IP is 192.168.1.254

I believe that should be the one you’re looking for?

That’s MUCH better.

With Quick Connect OFF,

open the 192.168.1.x LAN address of your syno (69.x.x.x is your public address – we don’t use that).

Now again go into the control panel,

one of your ethernet adapters will have a 192.168.1.? address.

What’s that please ?

Do I need to restart DSM after turning Quick Connect off? I don’t see a 192.xxx.x.x address for my Synology. Even if I use find.synology.com I am still seeing the public IP. I think I probably should have mentioned I am using an ATT Fiber modem/router combo which I have been using their IP Passtrhough settings so my server could be remotely accessible. Could this be creating some conflict somewhere?

This is what’s causing problems.
Disable the passthrough,

Get the modem FULLY back on the internal “LAN” side of the modem router then restart the modem and , after it’s restarted, restart the syno and your computer.

When the Synology Assistant (finder) can find your Synology on the LAN (192.168.1.x) LAN again, then you’ll have it correct.

As for the ATT modem/router – ATT Fiber works just fine with Remote Access.

Hi again.

Which Package should i install?
The Beta from within is can not use because of the Error.
I got a new Synology RS1221+

@plex_tv_reinhard_jung_name

Please use Public 1.26.1 from plex.tv/downloads

You want the X86_64 package (Intel 64 bit)

Thanks a lot, that did the trick for getting my server back so I can add new libraries. I am now having the Remote Access issue again which the only thing that seemed to work for me was to enable the IP Pass through on the modem. Is there another option? I originally tried the default solutions in the forums and had no luck.

Also, is there any issue with enabling QuickConnect again?

Once you have the server fully claimed – You can enable QuickConnect and use it.

The reason we need turn it off is because Synology converts the IP address (numeric) to a domain name – Which plex’s security blocks when unclaimed.

Now to the Remote Access problem.

Did UPNP not work with your AT&T? I know of 4 different AT&T fibre installations which are flawless .

Yes the server is claimed and I am currently creating new libraries with the files my shared folders on my Synology. That all works great. Thanks for the explanation.

From what I have seen my model does not support UPNP. I have the BGW320-505. And I have never really figured out how to port forward if that is what I am supposed to do.

I followed those instructions and doesn’t seem to work. Still am not accessible outside my network.

If you open a web browser,

Go to canyouseeme.org

and test the port

Does it show as open?
