[Solved] Synology DS918+ / Unable to reconnect local NAS after changing password

Hi,

(I’m sorry to open a new discussion I feel like Synology issue looks different)

Next to Plex mail I have changed my password. Since that time no way to get my DiskStation back in Plex media library !

I have a DS918+ running last DSM7.
I have tried to restart several times the service : no success.
I have tried to connect via http://my-local-ip:32400/web/ : no success.
I have tried via https://app.plex.tv/ : no success.

I have read some posts speaking about “re-claiming” but I’m never able to get that option !
I’m now wondering if I have to uninstall/reinstall Plex Server on my Synology : but to be able to do that I need to find the corresponding Plex server installation package (all the ones I have found on their site contain DMS6 in their file name, so I don’t believe this is the correct file).

Any help will be very much appreciated.

I get this if I go via app.plex.tv

I get this if I go via my local ip address (not allowed to access, you have no acess to this server)

Same issue here, any News on this?

This has happened to me and I don’t know what to do. I have tried all the possible fixes online and still don’t have access. Any help would be appreciated

I finally found out how to do it on mine. Im using a Synology with docker. I had my server set to require secure connections which i feel did the worst damage when trying to get back in. I modified the preference file itself so that the secureConnections string was set to 1. After that, open an incognito page and go to your local ip: http://ServerlocalIP:32400/web. This then showed my server without me being signed in. I was able to then go to Settings, General, and then claim. It asks you to sign in and will spend a few minutes claiming then

Can you give more details ?
(I have no docker)

!!!THIS BELOW IS WITH THE DOCKER VERSION. EMPLOYEE RESPONDED WITH DSM PACKAGE FIX!!!

Steps I took:

  1. Stop the Plex Server
  2. Open the Preferences.XML file (Where is the Plex Media Server data directory located? | Plex Support)
  3. Change “secureConnections” from 0 to 1
  4. Save Preferences.XML file
  5. Start Plex Server
  6. Open Incognito mode browser tab
  7. Browse to http://ServerLocalIP:32400/web This should show your media folders but will have ! marks on them.
  8. Go to Settings - General - Claim Server.
  9. Sign in and wait for claim

FOLKS!!!

DO NOT MANUALLY mess with Preferences.xml on DSM 7.

You don’t need that pain!!

  1. Uninstall the package — Use the KEEP option (which is the default)
  2. Reinstall the SAME SPK again
  3. Click “Install using Plex Claim Token” option
  4. Click “Get Plex Claim Token”
  5. COPY the claim token from the browser tab that opens.
  6. PASTE it back into the form on the installer window
  7. NEXT NEXT NEXT and it will start installing.

It takes an extra 20-ish seconds to claim and install.

When it finishes, LOOK CAREFULLY at the report page.

  1. standard permissions info.
    -AND-
  2. Successfully claimed again (shows your Plex account name)

Now you are secure connections ready

Open via http://LAN.IP.of.Syno:32400/web (not app.plex.tv or Quick Connect)
this FIRST TIME .

By official package if you mean the one provided by Synology : than no it isn’t synology package.

It’s already to “1” (I feel like “1” sounds as “true”. Anyway I tried with “0” and result looks the same.
I feel so stupid having changed my password (as I always had the 2 factor identification)

I don’t have kept the installation package :frowning:
(it was the very last Plex server version for DSM7). As explained in my very first message I have not been able to find it back .

@TabasKo

Go to Plex.tv/downloads and get the “Public” version (64 bit) DSM7 package for your DS-918+

Use it.

The Package Center (1.21.0-3744) is no longer compatible with DSM.
It was for DSM 7 BETA only.

Synology has not updated it

I have a DS916+ and I can access my Plex via private IP, public IP, mobile app, and Roku, but not via app.plex.tv
I get the error app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “myserver” securely
Wondering why it’s just with the web app and no other devices.

ALL GOOD !!! Thanks ChuckPa !

Control-F5 to force reload the web browser page and credentials.

Today’s actions forced web browser sessions to be logged out

didn’t work - also tried using different browser (microsoft edge, please forgive me) and also a different computer. no effect

Stop Plex

Manually, using FileStation, drill down into Plex/PlexMediaServer
until you see the Logs folder.

Right-click LogsCompress to Logs.zip

Download and attach it here. (:crossed_fingers: you have DEBUG logging enabled)

I need step away here for a bit.

I will go over them as soon as I return.

Everyone else: Please also grab your logs for me. It makes my life much easier to have that info available

Logs.zip (5.0 MB)

also to note, I downloaded and installed plex for windows and that works too.
the only thing that does not work is app.plex.tv

After spending a day fixing a broken server, I found the best way to fix it was to not change my password and restore to a backup of the server preferences.

@30Mike

Thank you for your patience.

Your certificate finally generated.

Please restart your server. You should be good to go now.
