Can't manually update to 1.13.5.5291

Hello, I’m running DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 and I tried updating PMS to 1.13.5.5291.
I downloaded the package PlexMediaServer-1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8-x86_64.spk and the checksum is correct, but when I hit Next a dialog immediately appears saying “Operation failed.” (not very useful to check what’s the problem btw). Any hints?

EDIT: I have a DS918+.

I have the same problem (DS415play). Uninstalling and rebooted did not help.

I have quite a lot of other applications and configurations on my NAS and don’t feel particularly happy about wiping the whole installation unless this is the last resort.

I’ve updated automatically (and manually) in the past without a hitch, this option seems a bit nuclear to me - has it been verified to resolve the issue for anyone?

Enable ssh (Terminal & SNMP)
SSH into the DiskStation
sudo -su root to gain root privilege

using more or any other method, examine the output of /var/log/messages.

System errors are recorded here,

Updating from exact same DSM, to exact same version (although 32bit, i.e. PlexMediaServer-1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8-x86.spk) provides the exact same screen.

Replaced the string after “Failed to delete keys” since I wasn’t sure if the token ought to be published or not.

Also Plex states I need to update manually, and package center in Synology claims the currently installed version (1.13.4.5271-200287a06) is the latest.

EDIT: To avoid confusion, I do not tunnel with ssh but just a plain vanilla login over ssh and then sudo for root privelegie. If you want me to set up a tunnel for specific tun(4) devices then please provide more details regarding that…

@finkille

At this point you have two options:

  1. Verify you can’t manually install any packages (Plex or otherwise) as a test then submit a trouble ticket to Synology and ask for them to repair Package Center. It indeed has an internal fault.

  2. Save your DSM configuration (Control Panel - Update & Restore - Backup Configuration; Reinstall DSM (does not wipe the volume) and restore the configuration after installing DSM again.

Synology might tell you to reinstall DSM as well. It’s not known how badly Package Center is damaged internally.

Thanks for the advise.

I will try using package center for other packages (didn’t think of any of the top of my head) but since you indicated that could be the problem I tried to install directly using synopkg after logging in via ssh and that worked.

So after logging in with a user with admin privilege I did the following.

sudo -i
cd <Location where I placed the file, in my case /volume1/users/<my-user>>
synopkg install PlexMediaServer-1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8-x86.spk

And got a lovely PlexMediaServer-1.13.5.5291-6fa5e50a8-x86.spk install successfully. I will check if there are other issues with package center and report to Synology if there is a problem for all packages.

I had the same issue which could be solved with the install via ssh, like you did

I haven’t done this in a while but should be what you need:

sudo -su root
synopkg install "path to pms.SPK"

Just to give some additional information here.
I was expecting to having to do this for every update if something was borken with Package Center.

So I was rather pleasantly surprised when PlexMediaServer-1.13.5.5332-21ab172de-x86 updated manually like a charm with no complaints.

So it seems that if Package Center ever was the issue it no longer is. If this is the same for others who experienced the problem then perhaps it was something wrong with that specific version after all?

Hello, I have DS214play and I am also stucked with Plex 1.13.4.5271-200287a06.

One day the Plex just not worked. Plex servise was stopped on Synology and could not be run. After several restart of NAS (and wiping some movies as there were error said there is no empty space on NAS) it finally runs, also I had to activate the remote access to Plex as it was disabled.

Now, Plex is finally wirking, but I am not able to manually upgrade to neither 1.13.6.5339 nor 1.13.5.5332 (its weird that version with lower number is newer).

I am quite sure, the DS214play is X86 platform.

Can you please help me what to do? (I dont really want to reinstall all the NUS, even Plex.

Thanks

Well, it was the Safari + Synology issue

I tried to install DSM 6.2.1 as you advised (manually as the DSM system said 6.2 is the latest version) and it ended with the same error as Plex package update (Operation failed), so I tried to use Chrome and that did it! Also the Plex update is working. Thanks anyway.

(FIXED)

Hi
I had this problem after migrating between two Sinology boxes.
I managed to get it to work by installing the latest version of Firefox.
The error was saying Operation Failed all the time i tried to updated Plex and also when restore configuration settings were being restored.
Safari and Chrome were causing the problem with me.
PS : I have a Synology DS918+
