can't play videos connected by external device

Have a Synology DS1515 with a couple of USB drives connected. Can see the drives listed, can see the videos, but get and error message media unavailable.

Check Control Panel - Shared Folders

Make certain the USB shares are accessible by user plex. (DSM is known to forget the permissions)

Thanks ChuckPA for the reply,

The USB shares are listed under shared folders and under permissions the Read/Write box for plex is checked

If you can see them in File Station then Plex will be able to see them when given permission.

They should show up as /volumeUSB1 and /volumeUSB2 (drives 1 and 2) if you were to look at the shell level. As comparison, your main storage volume is /volume1. You see /volume1 when you browse to add folders.

Would you show me what you see when at / (left pane) ? volume1, volumeUSB1 and volumeUSB2 should be visible in the right pane if user plex has permission to read/write /volumeUSB1 and 2

First sorry for responding late, but don’t know if your capable of seeing this screenshot. May have to figure out some other way to capture what I see.

I am unable to replicate what’s happening for you.

Please observe:

1 The drive visible in FileStation where expected

2 The permissions assigned in SharedFolders

3 Adding it to PMS

4 PMS scanning and adding

5 Clicking Play
