Plex on Synology DS218+ doesn't see files on external USB

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309-f5213a238
Player Version#:

I have a Synology DS218+ running the above Plex server. My Synology is on DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4. I have an external drive connected to it and it is a shared drive. I put some TV shows on there and pointed my server to that folder. Plex has Read/Write permission but when I scan the folder it doesn’t see any files. Any advice?

Please look here at how to give Plex permission to see the contents of the USBshare.

I had already performed this step but I went back and made sure all permissions were correct and still it did not see the files. I formatted the drive (ext4) and tried again, same result. I then connected a different drive, formatted it to ext4 and tried again. Same result.

I am not understanding . As secondary test, I grabbed a NTFS drive I have for migrating between systems.

  1. File Station saw instantly
  2. PMS was able to go right to it.

I tried a different drive with the same results when formatted in ext4. I then remformatted in FAT32 and it worked instantly. So what I ended up doing, since my external drive was 4TB, was formatting it in exfat and then using that. It is working fine now. Thanks!

Thank you for getting back to me. I will spend some time on this and see what has changed with DSM’s handling of EXT formatted USB drives. It doesn’t make any sense.

If you want some logs I can try to recreate it with another drive. You’ll just have to tell me how and what to send you. Thanks.
