I can’t figure out my Plex won’t grab the metadata for this show. It has the correct name, synopsis, and cover art, but that’s all it can grab. I’ve even changed the metadata language to Chinese which works to change show information but again, not the episodes themselves. Can anyone tell me why I can’t seem to grab any episode information?
I have multiple animes and none of them have this issue. I’m lost.
I have posted this on Reddit and it has been confirmed by others: Reddit Post
I created the show folder and an episode. Named it according to the standards, still won’t pull episode info from tvdb
You can do a manual search/match and use tvdb-464419 in the search to confirm it matches the show. It will pull the show artwork and the description, but the individual episode metadata will remain blank.
When you go to the show options and click advanced, only Library Default and The Movie DB show up. TMDB has the episode info, so you can use that, unless there’s a reason you don’t want to.
Trash guides official naming convention. Again, it’s not naming, I have multiple animes and all of them work flawlessly. Plus, it’s grabbing the show information (poster, name, and synopsis), it’s just the season and episode info it can’t grab.
/plexmedia/anime/Lord of Mysteries (2025)/Season 01/Lord of Mysteries (2025) - S01E01 - The Fool [WEBDL-1080p][EAC3 2.0][x264]-Kitsune.mkv
It’s not metadata. Others have confirmed the same issue with their own files, sourced separately, with their own metadata.
I’ve confirmed the same issue when I saw this post on Reddit.
To add, this show won’t pull up the option to sort by TVDB ordering. Only Library default and The Movie DB. I saw a post here about linking the season tmdb and tvdb, so I added the tvdb season id to the tmdb season id field for season 1, but not sure if that will help anything.
When Plex fails to pull detailed episode metadata and only displays the show itself, it can disrupt your media library experience. Forum users suggest checking the metadata agent settings and verifying file naming conventions to resolve the issue. Setting the agent to trusted sources and confirming episode order often fixes the problem. For sharing logs or configuration files with support, using the best cloud fax service ensures fast, secure, and reliable document transmission. This modern method surpasses outdated alternatives, making troubleshooting smoother and communication more efficient. Leveraging such tools helps Plex users resolve metadata issues quickly and maintain an organized media collection.
”I’m having this same issue, ended up manually inputting the episode information from tvdb myself. When I go into the series advanced settings there is no option to select tvdb as an episode order, only the movie database (aired).
Same thing is currently happening for Alien Earth.”
Can now confirm 2 different shows are having the same issue. Perhaps it’s because these are brand new shows? Perhaps Plex can only pull metadata from existing shows, even their new seasons as they air, but a brand new show is unsuccessful.
Allow at least 72 hours for new metadata to arrive in Plex.
If there are new, additional Episode Orderings of an existing show, Refresh Metadata of that show, so that your server can fetch these oprderings (to make them ultimately selectable).
Don’t expect Plex to have daily-current metadata for all media. This is not possible. The metadata sources Plex uses are mainly community-driven. Although coverage is pretty good, it is not realistic to believe that it will be 100% accurate and up-to-date at all times.
Sure, Alien Earth is new so I’ll give them that but Lord of Mysteries has been out since the end of June, over a month now. This isn’t a metadata issue, this is a Plex issue. Myself and other users have all tried refreshing the metadata and utilising the Plex Dance all to no avail.
We aren’t here complaining, we are trying to bring light to the issue and look for a fix. The fact is Lord of Mysteries has been out for a while now and nothing we do can get Plex to pull the data for any season episodes. It only grabs the overall synopsis, title, and poster.
This doesn’t make any sense. Yes, it is still airing but the first episode…and the second….and the third…and even the fourth episode have all been out for over a month. They should, and more importantly do, have info/metadata on tvdb that Plex can pull but it can’t. Again, this is a Plex issue. Nattie has even confirmed it with another post on these forums.
@D4rkm3ch looks like I may have found your issue. If your library’s default ordering is the TVDB (like mine was) it will not pull episode info. If you go into the show, advanced, and set the episode ordering to The Movie Database (aired) metadata will populate
@OttoKerner I suspect there is an issue of the TVDB metadata (even the first episode’s metadata) not matching with this show, I would suggest having the metadata team take a look.
FYI I created a dummy library for this show and was able to recreate the issue that was reported.
@dbrich, appreciate your response but unfortunately that isn’t a fix but a workaround. As you have seen yourself there is no option to use tvdb at all, just tmdb. I have already been doing this in the interim but I’m looking for Plex to make a fix since this is affecting multiple shows and having to change the metadata individually every time is extremely undesirable. Thank you for trying to help nonetheless.
Again, doesn’t change anything. Three episodes with metadata that can’t be pulled for any reason. This is a Plex issue. The data is there, has been there for many weeks, and Plex can’t see it. It can’t even select TVDB episode ordering for multiple tv shows, not just Lord of Mysteries.
those screenshots are for episode 8 not the first 4 which are being discussed here, the first 4 have had metadata on tvdb for awhile now yet are still not being picked up by plex only show level info. this has been an ongoing issue lately with quite a few shows
Same issue here :
Aug 29, 2025 19:00:45.652 [140088360688440] ERROR - [MetadataAgent/tv.plex.metadata.agents] Match request for ‘Lord of Mysteries’ returned no metadata
@OttoKerner something is wrong with the metadata on this show. Below are two screenshots one using the moviedb ordering, the second using the TVDB ordering. if you use the TVDB ordering episode naming is broken:
