After a recent power outage, I lost connection to my media server. My QNAP NAS (TS-251A) running QTS 5.0.1.2376
I stopped the Plex server on the NAS and restarted it, which usually does the trick, but can’t access any of my media.
When I launch Plex from the NAS, I have the yellow triangle warning sign next to my NAS and a page loads stating that my “server is unclaimed and not secure”.
When I click on the “Claim it now” button, it loads a new page with a button to “Claim server”. Pressing this shows a spinning circle for about 10 seconds and then nothing happens.
Just under that, it tells me that the current version is 1.32.2.7100 and that an update is available, and to “please install manually”. The button loads the Plex downloads page, and once I’ve selected the QNAP option for media server, it tells me the update is version 1.32.2.7100-248a2daf0.
I have an option of choosing four packages, and select the one labelled "Intel/AMD 64-bit (QTS-4.3 and newer), and download it and install it.
And then I go through the same process all of again. I have installed this update four times and having no luck at proceeding any further.
Please help!
On QNAP, if you uninstall, you erase everything you had.
(Always update/change versions by installing On Top Of Existing.)
When you next install , you’ll get two server instances with the same name.
Settings - Server - Authorized Devices - Server (dropdown)
will allow you to REMOVE the old, (now dead) server.
If you’re just re-claiming, Don’t delete it.

I haven’t uninstalled.
I can’t re-claim my server. When I click the button to reclaim my server, nothing happens. The page also tells me that my current version is 1.32.2.7100 and that an update is available.
I have contacted QNAP tech support who have suggested installing version 1.30.0 but I can’t locate it.
- Settings - Server - General will show your currently installed version.
- 1.32.2.7100 is both Public and PlexPass.
Plex must have internet connectivity to be claimed and run
The web interface isn’t the most reliable when reclaiming.
It’s fine for new installations but very weak reclaiming.
How comfortable are you with SSH?
