Can't see "Blue Planet II" TV series, but "Planet Earth II" works

Server Version#:1.30.0.6486

I started adding TV shows to my Plex server and the first two I added working fine. Recently I purchase a 4K collection that includes Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II. Planet Earth II works fine , but Plex doesn’t see Blue Planet II. I have the files named in the same fashion. I’ve compared everything I could think of between the folders and can’t find any differences. Both folders are on my NAS in the Media\TV Shows folder. Here is a samples of paths/file names: Media\TV Shows\Planet Earth II (2016)\Season 01\Planet Earth II - S01E01 - Islands.mkv and Media\TV Shows\Blue Planet II (2017)\Season 01\Blue Planet II - S01E01 - One Ocean.mkv

I’ve look at all the help items I could find on this topic, but nothing has worked yet.

I’ve both shows named the same and they work on my system.

Check file permissions?

You could also try adding the TMDB/TVDB ID to the folder name, Blue Planet II (2017) {tmdb-74313}, then Plex Dance the show.

You have to use the Plex TV Series agent & scanner for Plex to use the TMDB/TVDB ID.

Permissions are good. Tried your suggestions (added {tmdb-74313}), did the Plex Dance, but no luck.

When you say to use the Plex TV Series, I don’t see anything I need to do. The info on the web says that my server version should already be using this. I’m I missing something?

Check here.

Not sure why it is not recognizing the files. I updated my Synology to 1.30.0.6486 and created a new TV show library. It recognized the files immediately.

Maybe the log files will show something?

  1. Configure your server for debug, not verbose, level logs.
    Settings → Server_Name → General + Show Advanced

  2. Restart PMS, so the log files capture the startup sequence.

  3. Give Plex 2 - 3 minutes to fully start, then manually scan the library containing Blue Planet II.

  4. Pull the log files (Settings → Troubleshooting) and attach the zip file to the thread.
Use the upload button or just drag the zip file into the message window. It will attach at the cursor location.

Plex TV Series is the default agent and scanner. Some people still use the older scanners/agents, such as the Plex Series scanner. Mentioned it just in case you were using an older scanner/agent.

Tried that. No luck.

I’ve attached the logs.

I just solved the problem. It was probably due to lack of experience with Plex (I’ve only recently starting using it.). I thought to add new TV collections I just needed to add shows in the same directory (TV Shows in my case) on my NAS and then do a manual scan. This was not working. However, I was going to double check that I actually chose “TheTVDB”. I was looking at the screen shot you sent and notice a tab on the left labeled “Add folders”. Clicked on that and saw my existing three sets of tv show, but no Blue Planet. Added it from that and works like a charm.

Sorry to have wasted your time with this. Hopefully I won’t forget since it took so much effort to get here. I have the entire Matlock TV series arriving tomorrow, so will get some practice.

Do not add individual TV show folders to a Plex TV show library.

Given the file paths in your first post, you should add only the /Media/TV Shows folder to the Plex TV Show library.

Also, do not add the NFS share. Add the direct file path, /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Media/TV Shows, like you did for Movies.
