Can't see mounted Library

Server Version#: 1.41.2.9200=70009200
Player Version#: irrelevant

Hello,

I have media files stored on a USB drive attached to a Windows 10 PC. I configured the directory for sharing. I mount that directory on the Synology. The mount succeeds (verified two different ways: From Network on the Windows machine, I can view the Synology’s available shares, click on the shared directory, and see the files. From the Synology, I can use the File Manager to drill down to the directory where I’ve mounted the Windows file share, and see all the files.

I then configure the Synology Plex Media Server to use that mounted directory as the Library. No files are available in the Library even after I rescan and also try restarting Plex Media Server.

Why can’t the Synology Plex Media server see my Library? BTW, if I install Plex Media server on the Windows machine, and point its library to the exact same directory, it works perfectly.

You have to remember you are dealing with Linux on the NAS and Linux is very strict when it comes to permissions, unlike Windows.

You must apply the correct permissions to all folders/files in the mounted directory, otherwise Plex has no access to them.

  • Open File Station on the NAS and right click on the mounted directory and select Properties.
  • On the Permission tab highlight PlexMediaServer and click on Edit.
  • Make sure all Permission are selected and click on Done.
  • Next, enable Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files and then click on Save.

It may take some time for the process to complete, but all folders/files within the mounted directory should then have the correct permissions to allow Plex on the NAS to access your files.

That was it. Thank you very much!
