A friend has been accessing my Plex server for a couple years, suddenly he’s getting the “Unable to connect to server” error on his TV. Server is fine, several people use it regularly and even a few today.
So I set him up with a new account just in case something somewhere got jacked up, but I can’t actually give him permission for any libraries. If I remember right it used to be you could select which libraries to share when you entered in their email address or Plex username, or simply check “Share All Libraries”. That option to do so is totally gone–there’s a field for their name/email and literally nothing else, and no way to add access to libraries after.
I have 6 friends all listed as “Sharing 10 libraries”, but nothing next to his name, and he has definitely properly accepted the invite–it no longer says “Invite pending”.
How do you actually give access to someone now? The old method is gone completely. He can’t even see my server name to try to connect.
@OttoKerner Couple things–first, I fixed my sharing libraries issue on a hunch. I didn’t have a PIN number set up for my Admin account. I don’t know why it would matter, since I can do everything else to the server, but I went ahead and made a PIN. After that I could add library permissions to the new account, as well as authorize libraries when sending out a new invite. It’s weird… but it worked.
Second, I usually handle all the server controls and library management thru the direct local connection 127.0.0.1:port#/ etc. I never watch Plex on the PC as its unwatchable with horribly choppy playback. To be honest I’ve never tried your suggestion of https://app.plex.tv. When I did just now I saw all my libraries listed, but they were unavailable, getting the “Unable to connect securely” error. On the left side of my main server screen it clearly shows a green circle and lock icon next to the server name, and says the server is “Nearby”. Same happened when I tried to get there thru incognito. So… not sure why it can’t connect.
Because you have disabled Secure Connections on your server.
The web app is now defaulting to use secure connections. It requires special effort to access a server which doesn’t provide them. (and it will disable other things if you do so)
@OttoKerner I had it set on Preferred secure connections, I take it that’s not good enough. I know I had to change that a couple years ago for another connection problem. Guess I’ll change it back, hope the old issue has been resolved thru various updates.
