Okay, I know this issue has been asked a million times. I have searched a million times, too. But, I have three cartoon series that will not match no matter what I do. I’m trying to match up Magilla Gorrila and it will not work right. The two others are having the same issue. Every other TV show, cartoon, and movie matches up just fine. But, this? Nothing. I’m adding three screenshots of what’s going on.
As you can see in the middle pic, I’ve even gone in to rename everything on Plex, but it won’t load. The lower one shows all the incorrect data I’m getting.
Try naming the shows files The Magilla Gorilla Show as per the name on tmdb and see if it helps.
You will likely need to preform a full plex dance (all steps)!
EDIT: I tried to match the show manually using The Magilla Gorilla Show and Magilla Gorilla, both failed, even using a year hint. I had to use a matching ID to get it to match The Magilla Gorilla Show {tmdb-11167}.
You are using mp4 files. The titles that you see are most likely embedded meta tags in your files.
First thing should be to edit the tv show library in Plex and disable “Prefer local metatags” (on the “Advanced” tab) That way embedded meta tags will no longer override data from Plex.
Plex uses by default TMDB for tv shows. Check if your episodes fit either the TMDB or TVDB listing better. Then change the season and episode numbers of your files accordingly.
(Judging by your screenshots above, you will like TVDB better.) Plex Dance the whole show.
Navigate to the top level of the show in Plex and “edit” it.
Go to the Advanced tab and switch “Episode Ordering” to “TheTVDB (Aired)”
Refresh Metadata of the whole show.
Okay, so it seems that adding the TMDB tag to the folder worked, so far. As seen in the screenshot the naming has changed. This can work! I’ll just update the thumbnails to them manually.
NP. As otto pointed out there is also two entries at tvdb and one of them (the bad one IMO) has a link to tmdb which is most likely messy up auto matching. In addition anyone using tvdb episode ordering for this show could be off. Someone should really go and request this entry be removed from tvdb.
Thank you to both of you! It was driving me nuts. It has worked with Punkin’ Puss & Mushmouse (1964), which it the second of the three cartoons I was working on. My eye has stopped twitching… lol
Thanks again!
FYI, I was using TVDB and Filebot to do the naming of the files.
