Casting Live TV, Sorry! Something went wrong

Hi,

Really appreciate that a Plex employee is finally looking at this, to add I am running Plex 1.26.0.5715 and have a HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO tuner, casting fails from Chrome and iOS devices (as well as others but those are the ones that should work)

Looking forward to your response on this.

I am trying to cast (unsuccessfully) from the web app version 4.81.1 running on Chrome 101.0.4951.54

plexmediaserver 1.26.1.5798-99a4a6ac9 on Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS.

Tuner is HDHomeRun EXTEND (HDTC-2US)

Cast device is a Chromecast Ultra, running System firmware 281627, Cast firmware 1.56.281627.

Casting local content works (including shows recorded from the same tuner) but Live TV doesn’t and gives an error “Sorry! Something went wrong”

Tried various “Transcoder Quality” in Live TV & DVR Device Settings, same problem
“Original format”, “Highest quality”, and “Low quality (240p)”

I am happy to provide any logs and/or perform any debugging that could be helpful, please just let me know what to do!

Good news. The team has identified the issue and a fix is in the works. Fix is required in PMS. Hopefully included in a soon to be released update.

This is really good news! I’m looking forward in testing it!

This is fantastic news! Will you update us when the release is live?

Oh sorry. The fix is in the current PMS beta. Plex Media Server - #506 by janoskk

Hmmm…I still have the issue. That’s weird, right?
Do I need to do something else besides update the server to 1.27.0.5849?

Please provide details. Which client are you casting from and to what? The logs from the sending app would be helpful too.

I’m on PMS Version 1.27.0.5897 (Windows 10 21H2) and attempted to cast to a Nest Hub from an iPhone 11 Pro (iOS 15.5) running Version 8.4 of the app. I still got the “something went wrong” error. I have the zip file with the debug logs in my drafts. To whom should I send the logs?

Getting the same error after an update. I’m actually running two Plex instances in docker to circumvent this issue, last and 1.24.1.4931, 1.24.1.4931 works fine for live TV casting.

This was fixed, and now it’s broken again!

Any fix being worked on again!?

I’ve kept up with my software updates, but my hardware has remained unchanged and it is still working for me.

1.28.2.6161 server (Windows 10)
Google Nest Hub (1st gen) and Chromecast Ultra
Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD PCI Express TV Tuner Card 1609

I know it’s not helpful to say “it’s working for me” but I’m hoping that posting my setup will help the troubleshooting process.

I’m running 1.28.2.6151 and it’s not working anymore. :frowning:

@tkennedy3 are you casting from the app? Tab casting works fine but that’s not casting from the Plex interface. I’ve yet to meet someone who can cast using the cast button within the Plex app to a nest hub yet…

If you’re able to do it that’s a small miracle I’d say.

Well, count me for your small miracle. I’m using the iOS app v8.8 on iOS 16 on an iPhone 8+. I knew I forgot something from my setup list. lol

Another small casting fix was just released in 8.9. Please let me know if that helps.

Hello!

Casting live TV seems to be stopping after 10 minutes pretty consistently. Anyone else seeing this? It’s making watching the World cup tricky!!

This appears to be something to do with casting from Android. Casting live TV from iOS doesn’t seem to have the same issue.

Nov 30th 2022. Over a year since this issue arrived.

Still an issue.

Thought i’d try to see if it had been fixed…still nope.

Works fine casting from web, but any casting from an android device fails.

To be fair, your post is only the third in the thread that mentions Android and the first since May about it. I did help desk work for 8.5 years, it is hard to know something is an issue when there have been limited mentions of Android in those participating in the thread. And only in a couple of posts bitching about this do you even mention your setup.

Yes it is a feature you pay for and absolutely should be working for you. I’m not defending Plex or saying they’re without fault for anything, a lot of the recent “additions” I haven’t wanted. But get off your high horse about things not working if you never supply any troubleshooting info to help fix the problems except for those few posts in 2017.
