I can see how this isn’t feasible unless you have an HDHomerun Extend or similar tuner that will take care of the MPEG-2->h264 compression/encoding for you (as the Chromecast can’t handle a raw MPEG-2 stream). So perhaps this might be a feature request to support live TV tuning on tuners that do provide Chromecast-compatible formats natively.

Plex is a transcoder. That’s the whole point.
It works on Emby…
+1 for this feature. Any work arounds anybody is using?
The whole reason I moved to emby. Maybe I’ll revisit if it ever comes to fruition but got tired of waiting.

Emby works so well for Live TV on Chromecast. Any technical difficulties in implementing that feature, Plex team? What’s the status? Need testers, tips?

I had posted another topic about this but was directed here. So, allow me to raise my hand and say yes, I want this feature too. Football season is quickly approaching and if this isn’t fixed soon, I’ll need to look elsewhere for my live TV needs. Has this even been acknowledged by the developers? I’m seeing people complain about this feature since October 2017… that’s almost two years.
I also bought a lifetime plex pass and tuner thinking this was how the liveTV would work. I don’t think the devs understand how much market share they will lose to emby by not supporting this functionality.

This feature, and the lack of Plex developer interest in implementing it, is the sole reason I’m using Emby.

+1 as someone who bought an HDHomeRun and Lifetime Plex Pass for the sole purpose of casting live TV and now found out that I cannot and am extremely disappointed.
This is the only reason why I bought the lifetime Plex pass. Plex works with Chromecast, so I had just assumed I could cast anything. Not happy, but, I’m hopeful this “feature” is released soon. I had to talk my wife into letting buy the pass and set up a Plex server and everything. When I went to do the tech demo and knock her socks off I felt like Bill Gates on stage during a keynote. What do I need to do to help make this happen? What could possibly be the roadblock? I can cast literally anything to my Chromecast, except this.

It was working. Now it’s broken with the “Unable to play this content” error. Again.
