Change Metadata

What are the actual instructions for changing metadata?

What exactly are/shuld the “lock/unlock” position be in?

Here’s my issue in truing to change it via the GET INFO box and the EDIT box … NOTHING CHANGES!

I have PENELOPE, the Natalie Wood movie from 1966. There is also a Penelope movie from recently and it insists it’s the recent one. I cannot change the metadata, I click on and off the “lock” bar - sometimes it insists the data changes cannot be saved until I clear ALL THE WINDOWS but as soon as I close it changes my 1966 date of release back to the last movie (2000something). Help!

How do you have your directory and file named for the movie? If you name it with the year in parentheses it should match correctly. In this case, use something like:

Movies/ <--- Library points here, name doesn't matter
Penelope (1966)/ <--- This directory is not mandatory, but it is a good practice to place each movie in its own folder
          Penelope (1966).ext

As for locking manually modified metadata, when the lock is orange, the field should be locked (I say should be because if it’s not actually matched it could be removed by a library scan). However, if you get the movie to match correctly, no modifications should be needed.

If it still doesn’t match the correct movie after changing the file/directory names, you may need to perform the Plex Dance:

The metadata does read Penelope (1966) but not the file, so I will try that.

Thanks for clearing up the lock/unlock though I swear, after I lock it, it still changes it back and using RE-MATCH/DELETE MATCH does not seem to work but I’ll try it again after changing the file name - thx!!
