Changed admin password and now admin doesn't have access to the local media server

Since the password reset call to arms

QNAP NAS docler plex

Tried the preferences.xml > claim link > CURL command

curl: (60) SSL certificate problem: unable to get local issuer certificate
More details here: curl - SSL CA Certificates>

curl failed to verify the legitimacy of the server and therefore could not
establish a secure connection to it. To learn more about this situation and
how to fix it, please visit the web page mentioned above.

One potentially fatal mistake I made was the remove my previous QNAP connection from the list of authorized devices. Was presuming I’d add a fresh one.

Any ideas @ChuckPa ? (sorry should’ve replied to your original comment on this)

This worked for me, thanks. I initially followed another forum post to remove the 4 pairs form the preferences file and that got me a bit further on but the steps above were required to restore access.

It’s only working via the local address now though, not via apps and it looks like a HTTPS issue. I get the error below:

======
app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “NAS” securely

Its “Secure connections” setting may be set to disabled, or you may need to adjust some settings on your network. You can learn more about secure connections here.

On the NAS it’s set to preferred. I can’t browse to the server locally on HTTPS, just HTTP. I used to be able to prior to all the password reset and reclaim malarkey. Do I need to regenerate certs of something on the server side?

Thanks

Sorry, I meant to reply to this post.

This is the way… the ONLY way I was able to reclaim my server.

I have no access to my LAN and will not have any time soon. Is there a workaround for using the LAN IP?

This worked for me. Thank you very much.

Using QNAP. Thankfully I’m moderately good at the command line so nothing in this process was too complicated but I feel for anyone who doesn’t know how to even get to a command line interface on QNAP or the like. They are going to be in a bit of trouble.

Retried the curl command again, five hours later and it worked. Go figure. Thanks for sharing the steps.

Now if i could only get my LG TV to successfully relink to my account :joy:

It is ridiculous but that’s the ONLY mechanism Synology gives me in DSM 7.

For your QNAP, please read here:

Thank you, ChuckPa! THIS is the answer for those on DSM 7 (Synology) who are not “authorized” to access their servers after the password change. THIS works. Thanks again.

In DSM 6 Package Center I only get a prompt to confirm the uninstall and nothing showing options for “KEEP”. I went ahead and did the uninstall and then reinstalled but I am not seeing my server or any “Claim” in the Settings/General in a browser on the same network.

Help!

I’m also currently running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 6. I didn’t want to change to 7 because the configuration to run PLEX was never clear to me. Now I’ve gone and tried to change the password on PLEX and I have no connection. So I’m looking for an answer too.

When i reinstall Plex there is no option for a claim token. can you send an image to show what you are referring to?

For QNAP this works for me, to enable SSH goto Control Panel → General Settings → Network & File Services → Telnet / SSH → Click Allow SSH Connections → Click Apply → If using an account other than Admin (Which should be everyone!) Click Edit Access permission → Select your account → click Apply
Follow The linux method of logging into SSH via a client like Putty

I am stuck a the last step, having no access to my LAN. Isn’t there any solution to finish this Plexclaimtoken method from a distance?

This worked for me no issue!

The last step seems to be superfluous: I used the web app instead of the server and everything is working again nevertheless. Problem solved.

I have no idea what any of these instructions mean? Is there anywhere that these instructions are posted in a clear unambiguous way?

I literally don’t understand a single instruction that is listed out here.

Can anyone help me please I am desperate to get my plex server back up after chaning my admin password. This is just beyond awful on every level, so many people will be hopelessly locked out of their servers forever

First option is not keep there is no keep option:

THese are teh options:

  • unistall onlly. keep all existing files for future re-installation
  • sign out and unclaim this server. keep all texisting files for fure re-installation
  • erate all of the plase media server form this system (not recoverable)

its obv. not the 3rd options so is it 1 or 2???

Thank you so so so so very much! It worked and I can breathe again. I thought I lost everything forever (well not really), but it saved me a lot of work. It’s great to have these forums. Take care.
