@derektem

I see you just deleted the server.

Stop PMS
You might as well delete Preferences.xml and have it start up a fresh instance

Start PMS
Open it via the LAN address or 127.0.0.1 (if you’re on the server’s console)

  1. It will want to sign in,
  2. “Got It” popup
  3. Offer to create new shares (skip that)
  4. Proceed through setup, setting things as you go.
  5. FINISH and be at the dashboard.

You should now see your libraries (if database not deleted).
Also it will likely want to claim (Settings - Server - General) – Claim it.

Changed password because of plex email today. What a disaster. PMS will no longer find the server. I’m running (or was running) PMS (1.28.2.6106-6000) on a Synology NAS (DSM 6). Things I’ve tried

  1. logged out and logged back in with new password
  2. uninstalling PMS and reinstalling.
  3. installing different version of PMS.
  4. repeating step 1 about 100 times.
  5. Repeating step 2 three times.

The server no longer shows up under “Authorized Devices” (it used to).
When I open PMS, and go to “Your Media”, i get a “Get Plex Media Server” button. What? I should already be running plex media Server.

3+ hours of this. Frustration level at 11+…

Here, the FAQ

You will want the “Hard Reset” steps

@ChuckPa
Thanks for your reply. I followed your instructions and everything is working as I expected now.

Starting up with a fresh instance of PMS was the way to go.

is there instructions for doing this on the Shield?? lost all my libraries!! please help.

@edwardnizz

I’ve not been able to get time to figure out how to do it on the Shield yet.

If you’re in urgent need, I unfortunately think your best and only option is:

  1. Uninstall it from the shield
  2. Go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms
  3. Delete it.

If you’re willing to give me some time, I’ll try to get something in the works tonight.
(I’ve been hammered by the NAS and workstation servers for these past 2 days)

Ok I could use my kodi temporary to access my library. But if I can get the shield running without reinstalling everything that would be better. I’ll stand by for now.

Please ping me again in a few hours.

You know where this thread is… I’ll get lost with everything going on.
(I have 20 tabs in my browser right now :scream: )

I have my shield hunting for what I need.
I have existing base commands to prepare the shield for reclaiming.
I’ll just have to test it.

@edwardnizz

I’ve been trying to get into the Shield. I don’t have enough access through the Android Developer Bridge unless I install an app which does this task.

Unfortunately – Nuke it and start over.

No joy for me. Followed the DSM 6.0 hard reset steps. Of course file station doesn’t display the \Plex folder as specified in the instructions. Had to open an SSH session to access this. Made the changes to the Preferences.xml. Restarted Plex server and went to http://lan.ip.of.syno:32400/web. I still don’t seem to be able to access the plex server (browser displays this URL: http://192.168.1.2:32400/web/index.html#!/get-plex-media-server). Ughhhhhhhhhhhh…

@gregwoods2k

We are putting together a How-To (may be ready tomorrow)
on how to use the new script with DSM 6.

It’s not that difficult but requires using DSM Task Scheduler.

Finally made progress, just in case any other Syno Nas users enter my vortex of hell, here’s how i fixed it:

  1. Uninstalled plex server from my diskstation
  2. SSH’d in and deleted the preferences.xml. then tried to delete the entire /plex folder, but the command (‘sudo rm -r \plex’) failed. I’m definitely not a linux expert, perhaps that was the wrong command? Anyway, not sure what else got deleted after that.
  3. Reinstalled plex server.
  4. Finally I’m getting the plex media server UI when I launch it from the diskstation! (I almost cried).
  5. Rebuild all libraries, rebuild all metadata. 7+ hours later, the password change is complete.

@ChuckPa Very much looking forward to the ‘How-To’ for DSM6. Thanks for the suggestions.

I initiated my password change from the plex.app. Should I have changed it on media server first? I don’t know and am too afraid to go back and try. I’ll take my chances with the hackers from now on:) But there has to be a better way…

@gregwoods2k

I’ve reached out to the author of the How-To for DSM 6 and given him this link.
I’m sure he’ll be here when he wakes (before i wake)

Please never use sudo and rm -r together unless you REALLY REALLY *REALLY know what you’re doing.

In the wrong spot, you could have wiped out all your media in seconds and been TOTALLY HOSED.

Doing your post morten (emphasis on :coffin:),

  1. Changing the pasword is always done at plex.tv or through the Plex/web app.
    Personally, I find it a lot easier to use Plex/web. It’s a lot clearer and more friendly UI.

  2. It sounds like you deleted the contents of the Plex shared folder and started fresh?

  3. It’s not clear if you also removed the server name from Settings - Authorized Devices - Server along the way (deleting the old one)

  4. In spite of the difficulties, you did the :exploding_head: and started over.

That about it?

Hello,
Please, witch file do i delete instead of “Preferences.xml” in a MacOs Server?
Thanks in advance

@Rafie

This has MacOS instructions

@ChuckPa Much thanks :pray: :pray: :pray:

@ChuckPa , Sorry, i have done what it was mentioned in the article but, i have always the same issues:
i have no more access to Plex on remote machines and Web app
Each time my Macmini restarts, i have to claim the server once again.
Since a changed my password and email, PMS became so bizarre!
Any help please?
Thank you so much
regards,
Rafie
