Plex Server Version#: Version 4.89.1
NAS DS920+
DSM 7
After updating my password and checking off the log-out of sessions this morning, access to my Plex Server installed on my NAS was unavailable. I am using a PC that is on the same network as my NAS. I have gone through this document What if Your Plex Account Requires a Password Reset? | Plex Support without success. I have also deleted and reinstalled the Plex app on my NAS.
Perhaps you have Plex Media Server running on a NAS device or a different computer on the same local network, though. In this case, open a browser window and go to http://server.local.ip.address:32400/web (e.g “http://192.168.1.5:32400/web”). That will load the local/bundled version of the web app.
The Plex installer package on Synology for DSM 7 does not allow for reinstall using a Claim Token option or any other option. The alternative option by way of creating a text edited file seems like a last resort. If I download Plex from Plex.TV and manually install it on my Synology, would that install work or does the package need to be sourced from Synology to work correctly as a custom install?
The version in Synology Package Center, 1.21.0-3744, is a beta release. Unfortunately, Synology will not update or remove it.
There are several changes between that beta and current versions. It is not possible to seamlessly roll back. The largest change is that the -3744 beta keeps the Plex Data Folder in a different, hidden location. It is unaware of the PlexMeidaServer shared folder, which was added in later releases. If you happened to install & claim the -3744 beta over a current release you will not see your libraries, etc.
This is the way.
Yes. Use the downloaded version + manual installation. You will then see the option to use the Plex Claim Token during installation.
Before writing my post, I did uninstall Plex and reinstall the DSM Beta version from Synology thinking that it was the right thing to do.
Just now, I uninstalled the Beta, and reinstalled the latest Intel 64bit version from Plex.tv. All the steps went flawlessly. It presented me with two servers “Movieopolis” which I have been trying to claim and a new empty server. I selected both, Movieopolis was unavailable.
Start Plex Media Server if it is not already started.
Point an incognito browser window directly at the IP address of the NAS, http://nas_ip_address:32400/web, and login. Don’t use Synology quickconnect, etc.
Dang. Unfortunately the server is gone. I wish I had better news.
You got hit by the perfect storm of a hack, overloaded systems, beta software, and PITA recovery procedures.
Right now, the best thing to do is completely uninstall and start over.
Uninstall PMS with the “Erase All” option. This will uninstall the software and erase everything from the PlexMediaServer shared folder (there is nothing there you need to keep).
Go to list of Authorized Devices and remove Movieopolis and the new server.
Then re-install PMS from scratch, using the version downloaded from plex.tv.
