Changed Plex Password and PMS Dissapeared, No Soup for you, No Content Available

Server Version#:4.12.3
Synology NAS DY 1515+. DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 4

HI Everyone,

The other day, i needed to change my Plex Account Password.

I went to app.plex.tv and changed my password there. It all went well.

Then all of a sudden, my plex app on my phone had zero content. I was away from home and streaming over the internet. When I got home, i logged in via the IP address, and got faced with the “No Soup” message.

I followed steps that i found on these forums, such as deleting unauthorised devices, I then also deleted everything from the NAS > Plex folder. Realising, yes, that once the install happens, then all the libraries (content, trailers, information) would have to download again, and I am ok with this as I tried everything i could see.

So now, with the plex folder empty, and a fresh install of PMS from the Install package section of the Synology DSM, I hoped it would work.

Now i no longer get the “No Soup” message, i just get the “Add your media to plex”

However when i go to settings, there is no server section for me to tell PMS where the folders are that have the media (movies and tv shows).

Please have a look at the link below which is where i have saved some images of what it looks like.

Hoping someone can help.

Does anyone know how to contact Plex Support?

Thanks Chris.

Did you by chance check Sign out connected devices after password change when updating your password via the Plex account settings?
https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account

If so, you’ll need to sign all apps back into your account (using the new password of course).

Not exactly sure why you deleted all your stuff.
That’ll make things a little bit more complicated… best will be to follow this guide:

HI

Yes, did click the sign out of all devices, and I can sign in to Plex, both via the IP and also via app.plex.tv.

I deleted the library folder, because one of the posts that spoke about “no soup” had this as one of the solutions.

I have looked at the “why am i locked out of server settings…” and in the Prefrences.xml the following is NOT there for me to be able to delete.

  • PlexOnlineHome="1"
  • PlexOnlineMail="jane@example.com"
  • PlexOnlineToken="RanDoMHexIDecIALtoKeNheRE"
  • PlexOnlineUsername="ExampleUser"

Thank you for your help so far,

Chris.

Hi @trumpy81

Ahhh, See i run a mesh network from Amplify from Ubiquiti and with issues we had with other wifi networks in the area, had a tech guy come over and they changed the IP to be 17.2.17.66 so its not the normal numbers to make it more secure. It did however make our wifi work more faster though.

Ill have a look at the SSH Tunnel.

I also read that there needs to be a “plex” user in the Synology NAS, this has now gone. I can create this again, but what password would i use for the user? Any ideas?

Thanks Chris.

May I ask why your “Tech Guy” setup your LAN to be that of Apple Computer’s IP addresses? Apple owns the entire 17.x.x.x block. There is a grievous error here.

With all due respect, I wouldn’t let him anywhere near my equipment if he thinks that’s the right thing to do.

Anyone who knows how IP addressing works knows that RFC-1918 addresses are not routable into the public space. As such, they are the most secure. It is 100% safe for me to post all my LAN IP addresses here because nobody can reach these addresses if on the outside (WAN).

This is why modems / routers use RFC-1918 addresses (192.168.x.x, and 10.x.x.x) as their defaults for setup in our homes.

I am having a similar issue as the OP. I’m curios as to why you say the range of IPs the local network can use is limited. I have been running a PMS on a windows box using a LAN IP outside the ranges you mention for about 2 years without issue (at least until I tried to switch to an unRaid server)…is this a new change?

RFC-1918 has been a requirement for a VERY long time.

The plex.direct domain & DNS rebinding of that domain on your LAN is 12-18 months old now.

The plex.direct domain requires RFC-1918 compliant LAN addressing to function.

Hey @ChuckPa

Thank you for your time and effort with helping.

You are right.

As soon as I set the IP to one you suggested. It found the PMS and started working.

Thank you very much.

Chris.
