I’m yelling at the wind here, but I think it’s crappy to keep changing pricing and play limits after I’ve already bought in and committed.
I have a server for family movies and purchased a lifetime pass. All my family members have used the free Plex player on various devices to watch our family movies. Recently they’ve all been getting error messages and have had 1 minute playback limits, with the software prompting them to pay for a pass.
In my opinion, if you downloaded the player under the then-existing terms, conditions, and pricing that should be the plan. But it seems like Plex will continue to create limits and squeeze out new revenue wherever they can. I understand for a new user, you pay whatever the current plan is and can make your decisions. But I have many family members who have all been on for a while that now need to buy a subscription. If I had know this was how it would go down, I probably wouldn’t have purchased my lifetime pass.
My family members have not experienced any type of 1 minute limit until this week. So, something has changed recently. This week they are all calling me.
Even though I just upgraded to the very latest version of the Plex server software, my Plex Home page does not have buttons at the top for Invite Plex User, Create Managed Account, or Enable Guest.
Going to my Account it shows I have a Plex Lifetime Pass. Not sure why I don’t have this feature.
As far as I can see, you have joined someone else’s Plex Home, back in August. (I assume you only intended to accept his media sharing offer, but you were inadvertently invited into the Home as well. The user name of that user starts with “B”.)
While this has almost no effects for you personally, it will destroy your own Plex Home. And therefore all users who were previously part of your own Home are now “homeless”, so to speak. They won’t be able to profit from the benefits of your Plex Pass anymore.
I am the user whose name starts with a “B” and a friend who invited me to their Plex had a crown next to their name and was listed as the home user. So I clicked the X next to my name to delete myself, but magically instead of deleting myself it deleted my friend the home user, apparently made me the home user on my own Plex, and the appropriate buttons appeared!
