Is there an option on Xbox One to lower the quality of the video I’m trying to stream? If so how would I go about doing this?

Yep. Once the video has started playing press the A/Select button on the controller/remote to bring up the OSD and select the button with three dots. From there you can change video/audio streams and also change the video quality.

Is there a way to bring up the quality settings in the main menu, before you try to play an individual file? The problem I’m having is that it I can’t even get it to play first, so I don’t have the option to hit “A”

It gives me an error message, saying my server isn’t powerful enough, but my files should all be MP4, H.264, which I think will play fine, if I just get the quality settings adjusted.
