Check for Updates

When I open Plex and go to Settings, “Check for Updates” is not highlighted and cannot be “clicked”. I am running Version 1.9.7.4460 and am logged in. Thoughts? I’m sure I’m messing something up…

It’s a bug that manifests itself if you declined the question for an automatic update once.

Thanks Otto. Deleted Registry key and when opened it stated new update available. I downloaded and when told to installed, said “something went wrong install manually”. Can you direct me as to how to do this? Thanks for your time!

I am assuming you are running Plex server on Windows:

All you need to do is:

  • Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
  • deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows (do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.)
  • for safety, reboot Windows
  • download the installation exe of the newer version and install it

(If you want to install an older version of PMS, take a look into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Updates)

Sigh… I’m afraid this is too far above my pay grade. Didn’t expect to
have to do these types of things in order to keep it up to date. Thanks

Which of these steps makes you shy away?
