Plex on Windows 10 asking me to install media server

So I’ve been running Plex Media Server for years on Windows 10 and never had an issue. Remote connect has always worked fine as well. Nothing has changed except letting it install updates on a regular basis. Suddenly I logged in today and when I go to Your Media, it asks me to install Plex Media Server. Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Downloading the newest version, of which I copy pasted the version below, and installing. No luck.
  • Going to Localhost:32400 - says can’t connect
  • I found a 4-year-old Reddit post that said

Had the same problem, figured it out. As you suggested, it’s a flag in the registry. I already deleted it - so I don’t have the exact key, but it’s located in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server

The Key is called something like ButlerTaskSkippedVersion or something like that. Delete that key, restart plex, and you’ll be able to download updates once again just like before clicking “skip this version”.

so I backed up my registry, deleted that key, and restarted Plex. No luck there either.

Any ideas?

Server Version#: 1.25.0.5220-de6e61df7-x86

Since I didn’t get any replies here I posted this on Reddit, where someone was able to point me to the correct registry keys via this support article, which resolved my issue. Why am I locked out of Server Settings and how do I get in? | Plex Support
