Unable to cast to my Google JBL link View
If you mean you are not able to cast Plex at all, then that is different issue than what is being discussed in this thread ā and if so, you should start a new thread.
@darcilicious: Thanks for understanding the problem.
@arudders: After reading your note, m experience was a little (a lot?) different.
I just updated my windows based plex server to the latest 1.18ā¦, I also reloaded my android plex app from the playstore, and and tried again. At least this time, I get a nice message that says:
"Unable to play Live TV
Live TV playback is not currently supported when connected to a remote player. Would you like to disconnectā¦"
So the problem is clear. The questions are (and have been asked elsewhere):
Is plex going to let me cast LiveTV to my large TV?
If yes, when?
From my standpoint, it seems a little ridiculous the way it is, so there must be something I donāt understand. I can put one of my Roku boxes on the TV and LiveTV works fine, but if I try and use my existing chromecast (that works perfectly with youtubetv live) I am denied.
If the answer is āno support anytime soonā, could I at least get an explanation from the product guys on why? It canāt be technicalā¦
Best, and thanks in advance. I appreciate the help.
Let me rephrase my response @darcilicious
I am still unable to cast LiveTV to my device.
Iām running latest Plexpass server on QNAP x64 and have successfully casted Live TV to a Chromecast (Ultra) as well as a Lenovo Smart Display.
FINALLY.
Using server 1.18.3.2111 and Android app 7.25.1.14216 (latest versions according to the release announcements) and I still have the ālive TV is not currently supported when connected to a remote playerā error message.
Just updated my Windows Plex Media Server to version 1.18.3.2111 and also verified my Android app is using the latest version 7.25.1.14216 released 11/28/19 according to the Google Play store. Unfortunately I too am still receiving the same old message when attempting to cast Live TV to my Chromecast or Chromecast Ultra all connected to the same local network.
I also just updated to Windows Plex Media Server version 1.18.3.2111 and am using the Android Plex app version 7.25.1.14216 (seemingly the latest) and I am receiving the same message that I cannot cast to a āremote deviceā. This makes Plex completely useless to me and really needs to be addressed.
Sounds like itās working with the iOS app but not Android. And not the web interface.
I tried casting Live TV from the web interface to both devices I had success with using iOS and it did NOT work.
So, Plex hasnāt responded to the question about when they would support this functionality for android. BUT, they were nice enough to send me a reminder that the payment for my PlexPass is due soon.
On the same day, YoutubeTv sent me an UNSOLICITED email that says they have removed the fast forward and rewind restrictions from all of their DVR offerings. The timing was a little frightening, but that asideā¦
I have been maintaining both services, for two reasons: there are a few OTA stations that I can get through plex that I canāt get through YoutubeTV, and the CBS no fast forward was just too painful to live with
With the second reason to maintain both services removed, it is now down to a few local stations that I canāt get on YoutubeTV. So before I let my plexpass expire (and look for other OTA solutions) I am going to try one more time:
Does anyone have a realistic idea if/when live tv casting will be supported on Android?
Thanks in advance
Well, my Plex pass runs out tomorrow. Since I got no answer, I guess that was my answer. Thanks anyway.
This is now year 3 of us asking for this to be resolved.
Is this really how Plex handle paying customers ?
Eh, just switch to Emby. It works there.
So whatās the latest? It works with iOS but not Android?
I tried with iOS awhile ago and it still didnāt work.
Right, thatās annoying.
I had it working before and tried tonight on several different server versions including the older 1.18.2 and itās no longer working. Both my iOS Plex apps have been updated to 6.6 so Iām pretty sure those mother ā ā ā ā ā ā ā nerfed the ability with an iOS app update (It was working on 6.5)
OMG this pisses me off.
Whatās the go @elan?
I downgraded to iOS Plex app version 6.5 and once again I AM ABLE to cast Live TV to Chromecast 2, Chromecast Ultra, and Lenovo Smart Display. No idea if 6.5.1 or 6.5.2 also work.
Downgrading the iOS app was accomplished through the headache of locating the version 6.5 .ipa file on the interwebs and sideloading it with AltStore/AltServer beta from https://altstore.io/
Iām running the latest QNAP Plex server 1.18.5.2260 so I doubt the server version is terribly important.
My iOS device is not jailbroken, and now I should be able to once again cast the super bowl to TVs without antennas unless Plex finds another way to screw me before next weekend.
Thatās good to know it works with previous iOS client. @elan can we please get this resolved? We have been more than patient wouldnāt you agree? I couldnāt use this a year ago when I was overseas for a few weeks and I am due to head off to Hawaii of all places last week of Feb and would really like to cast live tv.
