While iOS accidentally allowed Live TV to be cast in that previous update, there were a few serious issues and it was not ready to go out. We’re looking into those issues and hope to have an update soon.
Thanks for the update Eric. Looking forward to using this feature.
iOS 6.7 is out. No mention of casting
I’ll stick with 6.5. I’ve experienced no “serious issues” while casting live tv.
Hi Eric:
This probably isn’t your job, but could you ask someone to update this thread on the plans for Android casting of live TV?
I let my Plex subscription expire, but, if there is a realistic schedule It may be worth $30-$40 not to try and make something else work. If the schedule is really “never”, that would be OK too, then at least we’d know and plan accordingly.
Best, and thanks
Casting from iOS, Android, and web should be released together when it’s ready.
not being able to stream live tv to chromecast is really unfortunate. hopefully there’s a solution soon. is it really different from streaming any other content? technically there shouldn’t be any difference.
i am on the edge of getting the Fire cube since people have stated in reddit that this is a good option for live tv streaming. but then the comments say otherwise on amazon directly… so i dont know what to do… is it true that live tv streaming to a fire stick works but not a chromecast? - i would like to know before making an investment on another piece of hardware.
Thank you,
Shame on me for not researching this sooner.
I upgraded from fire stick gen 1 to a Chromecast Ultra and ran into this problem. Combing the two and a half years of forum entries without any responses from Plex is so disappointing. I was hoping to just keep using the fire stick until what was seemingly an update but was resolved, but I have no such hope after reading this.
I would like to know if there is honestly any reason to hold out for a fix, or if I have to return my purchase.
Hi Eric - can you tell me if this currently being worked on? I’d like to know whether I should to return an recently purchased Chromecast Ultra for a fire stick 4k, or stick it out for a fix.
Dear Plex, What is the current schedule for enabling live tv for casting to chromecast?
@ericmatthys @elan Very disappointing!
In Honolulu and can’t stream my Australian FTA.
As soon as it is done. It is being worked on.
Relieved that Plex team is finally in this thread acknowledging the roadmap! Eagerly awaiting this functionality.
Like others, Live TV is useless to me unless I can cast. Like others, I ran out and bought gear to get Live TV going only to realize the critical component of casting isn’t there yet.
There is definitely some other reason why this has not been implemented. Plex supported Chromecast since 2014 and added live TV in 2017 I believe. We’re talking 2.5 years here. Lol.
Casting Live TV to Chromecast
A long-requested feature is coming in Android (v7.30) and iOS (v6.10). This should be out at the end of the month for all. We are trying to get early betas out, potentially by the end of next week, for those in the beta programs. How to join betas

Looks like it’s working in the latest beta release and the latest Android version. Thanks!
Credit where credit’s due - the feature works really well in the latest releases. Thank you for adding this, guys. Much appreciated.
I’m new to Plex, I have been able to get it to work (server is a pc) to play music on my android devices, as well as use them to cast music to Chromecast. I got a plex pass and have set up live tv and DVR, and I am able to watch the tv/dvr on my android phone. However, when I push the cast button for the tv/dvr content on my phone, it does not successfully cast (either a “something went wrong” message or a blank screen). I can successfully cast from my laptop. Am I doing something wrong, or is this simply a plex limitation?
Ok, I updated to the beta stream for the server and app, and I can cast tv, but after about a minute the Chromecast totally shuts off. If I mirror cast my Android screen there are no issues. Any ideas?
