Claim Server Nightmare (Synology)

Server Version#: DSM 7.1.1-42962 Update 6
Player Version#:1.32.6.7557-7000

A few days ago, Plex lost my D218 plex server. I looked up the fixes and went through the motions several times before I realized I needed to do the Linux version of instructions for modifying the preferences file. Once I figured that out, I got Plex back online and got to the “claim server” button window in the Settings and NOTHING. I click the button and nothing happens. Click it again and nothing happens. I’m at a total loss of what to do next.

Please help. Thank you.

There is no need for all the horrors on DSM 7. The package has built-in claiming capability.

The only thing you must confirm:

  1. DNS points to the modem/router and is working
  2. The network default gateway is set to your modem router

The procedure is here (with screenshots)

Thank you for your response. I followed your instructions, but am getting an error message after inputting the claim code. Don’t know how to do screen shots but it says: "could not complete dialog with Plex.tv.

Any further pointers would be greatly appreciated. Should I go back to the original preferences.xml file (when it was lost) before I tried deleting entries and reopening?

“Could not complete dialog with Plex.tv” means:

  1. Network gateway IP address is incorrect
    -or-
  2. DNS lookup IP addresses are incorrect.

Both of these are in Control Panel - Network - <Network Interface> - EDIT

Thank you again for your help.

The manually configure DNS Server box is checked and the setting is the same number (192. blah blah blah) as the default gateway. Should I change the setting to something else? Should I uncheck the “manually” box?

@paul7604

To be specific about the LAN settings –

192.168.x.x == the RFC-1918 LAN range you should be using. Anything else is a public IP address. ALL RFC-1918 addresses are safe to publish here in public because they only exist inside your router.

The “manual” port specification is up to you.
Did you manually forward a port from the modem/router → port 32400 of the machine? If you did. then put that external/public port number in the box ELSE uncheck the box
