Clearstream is not seen by Plex Media Server

Server Version#:1.15.2.793
Player Version#:

I purchased a clearstream tv this week. I have set it up on my network and it plays to my iOS devices fine. Plex Media server cannot find it in when putting in the IP address. Any clues to what I might be missing? It hangs up in the DVR setup window.

I had this issue, and you need to update to the latest firmware on the clearstream. On mine it took like 4 or 5 tries of hitting the firmware update button for it to actually update.

When it would not update, it would reboot and then back to defaults.

When it worked correctly, it would reboot, go back to defaults, but when I connected to its wifi, it would say “Updating” for around 5 minutes. That is when it was actually updating.

Where the heck is the firmware update button? on the iPhone app, no such button exists!

So figured this out… Get this… if you’re using an iPhone or any iOS device to try and update… the option isn’t there in the app. You can only update the firmware via the Android app version. I found this info on an obscure website. Luckily I had an old android tablet laying around that I could get the clearstream app downloaded on, and it’s currently in the process of updating the firmware. I will report back once it’s uploaded.

My clearstream is working on an ios version update… but I tried it on my ipads and iphone X and neither gave me the option to update the firmware.

UPDATE: Very painful upgrade… I thought it was bricked at one point. I updated it, and I could not get it to accept my network conenctions. Kept trying, and manually reset it 3 times, and finally they took. I looked at the firmware version… and oddly enough it has the EXACT same firmware version as before, but a date of 1 Feb 2019, instead of 2017 as before. Went to plex, and sure enough… instantaneously found it…

Very bizzare F/W update.

I talked to Clearstream C/S yesterday and they told me that the iOS update should hit the app store sometime tonight. FWIW

Be aware - I have another reply on a different thread. But now there’s a new set of problems, though this time they seem to be on the Plex side. After Plex sees the Clearstream it requires you to scan the channels. The community thinks the job is failing for most people, because the channel names have “weird” unsupported characters in them (example - “&” or “,” or “!” - I have a channel named “WCIU-TV, Chicago” and another named “Movies!”

Not sure when this is supossed to be fixed, but there’s no workaround yet other than trying to cancel the scan randomly mid scan to see if any of the channels take. I’m only able to do that for 12 out of the 49, and they’re not even the important local channels I need.

from what I can tell, this clearstream only has 1 tuner, why would you buy that instead of a 2 or 4 tuner from hd homerun ?

I only really need 1 tv to be active on it right now, and curious how this will work. If I need additional, I will buy a homerun.

Plex does require a firmware of 1.1.0.412r1-V1 for the Clearstream tuner to be discoverable so yes, it is odd that yours was still displaying the original firmware version but yet worked. The iOS app has been delayed by Apple approval. It should be released in 1-2 days.

We apologize that you had difficulties in upgrading.

I am using version 1.15.3.876 which Plex says up to date and it cannot find the Clearstream. Any thoughts

Why don’t you call into Antennas Direct 1-877-825-5572, someone in their Connection Crew will try to troubleshoot with you.

But a couple of initial things:

  1. Is your firmware for Clearstream up to date? It should be 1.1.0.412r1-V1
  2. Did you go through the setup of your Clearstream to connect to your home wifi?
  3. Is your Clearstream functioning through its own app on iOS/Android/Roku/Amazon and are you successfully watching live TV?

The iOS app has been released!!!

Our engineers are working on a fix for this and an updated firmware file will be made available as soon as we can.

I just got the iOS app, and I am unable to update the firmware! When I click Software Update, it says to connect to the ClearStreamTV Wifi, but it is already connected to my home Wifi, so I cannot do that! Help please! My tuner is currently on version 1.1.0.402r1-V1

So I thought I would add another tuner to my Plex setup. Seemed to freeze after the 1st update attempt but after the second it rebooted and I got a ready for Plex message. I did the update on android. After the update I am on 1.1.0.414r1-V1. I was then able to head to plex and setup the DVR. Had to start with a channel scan. Then select my guide. Was very similar to the experience I had with my HD Homerun Prime. The prime was more refined and has more tuners. Interesting experience. Look forward to seeing it in action. Guess only time will tell. May end up relocating it somewhere else to one of my other Plex servers. I wish there was better multi-server management, but that’s a topic for a different thread.

Hello all,

I initially experienced the same issues with my Clearstream TV tuner. Here are the steps I took to get the Clearstream TV tuner working with Plex.

Clearstream TV Tuner - update to latest firmware 1.1.0.414r1-V1 (or later).
Plex Media Server - manual update to latest firmware version 1.16.5.1488 (or later).

The latter was the step I had been missing. Once the latest Plex Media Server firmware was installed (it needed to be downloaded as a .spk file and then manually installed on the synology diskstation via “Manual Install” function in Package Center), the ClearstreamTV tuner was immediately recognized within the Plex DVR Setup.

Hope this helps!
