Client should explain to the user why Plex stops playing after a few hours

I am running the Plex server on DSM.

My primary use for Plex is that I have around 150 shows I like to shuffle for background entertainment while I’m gaming or sleeping.

So I’ll go into “all shows” and just hit the shuffle button, and let it play all day.

Problem is, after a few episodes it’ll go to the screen that comes up between episodes where it tells you what is up next… and just stop.

If I open up the client and hit pause then play, playback resumes for a few more episodes, then it stops again.

I took the problem to Reddit for help, and found out that this is a feature, not a bug: Plex intentionally stops playing after a while if you play or shuffle a show or group of shows.

However, if you make a playlist of the same shows and play or shuffle that, it will play in perpetuity.

So Plex is stopping playback intentionally if you’re not using a playlist, for some reason.

The problem with this is that when playback stops there’s no explanation to the user, so they assume something went wrong.

If Plex is going to stop playing after a while, there should be some indication in the client as to why this is happening, like when Netflix asks you if you’re still watching.

It’s a known issue and Plex stupidly thinks they know what’s best about this issue. There’s no toggle or anything for it and they’ve known about it for years.
