My Sinatra collection is an absolute mess. Only 8 of 12 discs appear in library. When comparing library to actual metadata, many library tracks appear in the wrong disc. But the metadata seems to be correct.
I am considering deleting the 12 disc collection from my source files and re-ripping.
Are there any steps in doing this that I need to follow - to do this correctly?
It’s unlikely you need to re-rip the discs. It’s probably just some problems with the metadata.
Is your library fully configured to prefer local metadata, or are you depending on the online sources? If you’re set up for local, can you take a screenshot of the album in your tagging software so we can get a look?
It’s fine to have the tracks in separate disc sub-folders, but it will go easier for Plex if you populate the Discnumber tag. That’s actually what I was expecting to find. It caused headaches for me with a few albums.
You must get the disc number out of the Album tag. If the Album tag is not identical over all tracks, Plex will not get it right. Same is true for Album Artist, but you appear to be fine there.
I have completed your suggestions and it worked on 2 Artist Collections that had not been presenting properly in the library. Populating the Discnumber field on each track was not sufficient to resolve the problem alone. Your suggested Folder reconstruction was also necessary.
But I also needed to do a Merge to complete the rearrangement.
So now, instead of having multiple albums for an artist collection of 12 discs, I now have 1 artist and 1 album with all the discs and tracks in proper order.
