Just reinstalled server Version 1.24.5.5173. scanned library. Plex created a collection for almost every movie. The “Use collection info from The Movie Database” is unchecked in both Plex Movie (Legacy) and The Movie database. Also, the movie collection folders are showing in the library list as well as the collection list. I have uninstalled plex and tried again. Same result. I fresh installed windows 10. Same result.
Were those options checked when you created the library? Once you create the library and the metadata is pulled for a movie, then the data is already pulled. Disabling collections afterwards will only disable future media added getting collections.
You could just disable that collections show in the library (Edit Library > Advanced > Collections drop-down > Disabled). Movies that are in collections will stay in collections, but those “folders” will not show up in the general library itself, only on the collections tab.
If you have stopped movies from being put into collections going forward, you can delete all the collections at once by going to the collections tab, selecting the first collection (click the circle in the top left corner of the poster), scroll to the bottom, then hold shift and click the circle on the last collection. This should select every collection. Click the triple dot within the orange selection box near the top of the screen, and choose delete. This deletes the collection tag in the movie metadata, not the movies themselves.
I’m not on my usual computer currently, so it will be difficult for me to provide images. If my instructions are not clear, let me know, and I will do it anyway.
You are probably using mp4/m4v files, which have an embedded “album” meta tag.
Disable the checkbox “prefer local meta data” in the properties of your library before starting the scan of a new library.
