Community Builds of Plex Media Player Embedded 2.x for Raspberry Pi 2/3[+] & NUC/x86_64

Refer to my pinned post in this forum.

Are the SSH user//pass credentials documented somewhere?

I managed to guess them (root//plex).

Possibly a bug but enabling the SSH server requires a reboot for it to become active.

Do they also work on Pi2B?

Yup, should do. I haven’t got the resources to test them in all the boards, mainly because I don’t have them, I’m relying on you guys to try things and see.

@stedaniels
GREAT JOB! Everything is running smoothly. Was this build made with the Wireless Module turned on? I sent you a PM earlier asking but I figured I should have asked here in case anyone else got it working and its just me being a dumb ass.> @Xen0sys said:

How does one change the time zone?

Mine is currently 2 hours off.

(Pi B 3+ build is working FYI)

As promised, the latest generic x86 build that I am using on my NUC
PlexMediaPlayer-2.9.0.1-19661037.Generic-x86_64.img.gz
PlexMediaPlayer-2.9.0.1-19661037.Generic-x86_64.tar

Sorry, no idea, I don’t use WiFi and I don’t have a 3B+ to test with. Might help searching the LibreElec.TV forums this build is based on their 8.2.5 build.

@jrelax updating links in first post.

I use generic on the NUC7I5BNK. I had to downgrade back to the public nightly 2.2.0 due to every remote command being interpreted twice using a harmony remote. I am chasing the latest build possible trying to get the latest audio formats working but I am not having any luck.

similar problems, Logitech was doing two clicks for every one.
Videos would not even play at all.

was worth the try though! maybe 2.9 will fix some of these issues.
Disable the LIRC service. Its not need anymore.

This did the fix, disabling LIRC from setting is the solution.

Will do. Thank You for the heads up. I don’t use WiFi myself, but someone I am setting this up for does. I will go look at the libreElec.TV links and see what’s cooking. If I run into issues with building it, do you mind if I shoot you a question and pick you brain?
Either way, you’re been a tremendous help an I greatly appreciate your time. Thank You

Pi 3 B+ build occasionally crashes to black screen - only recourse is power cycle.

Crash could coincide activation of screensaver but haven’t timed it.

@leveraged Sorry, I’m not at all familiar with LibreELEC.tv or wifi on the Raspberry Pi’s.
@Xen0sys thanks for the heads up, Plex is doing embedded builds now so they’ll hopefully soon have a 3B+ build themselves.
Keep an eye on https://github.com/plexinc/LibreELEC.tv/branches to see when they merged LibreELEC.tv 8.25 or greater into one of their branches and then get the build from https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/embedded-testing/
Anyone using embedded who doesn’t need it to run on the 3B+ should run the Plex nightlies regardless.

This release is crashing with increasing frequency which is somewhat alarming - should be about the same frequency one would think.

I tried the latest Plex official nightly and it just stays on the rainbow square boot screen. (https://nightlies.plex.tv/public-test/plexmediaplayer/embedded-testing/2.9.0.847-b1acec41/PlexMediaPlayer-2.9.0.847-b1acec41.RPi2-arm.img.gz)

@Xen0sys Yeah, it’s mostly discarded excrement, that being said with my head hanging low, I STILL haven’t been able to build a proper embedded image that supports the wireless on the RasPi3b+. @stedaniels version works great if you get the chance to download it. I just need the WiFI Support and I am anxious to try and get this thing working. Have you had any luck at all getting the wireless to work on the embedded version?

I will look into the 8.2.5 rebase soon, we’re currently running 8.2.2, but the new RPi firmware isn’t there.

Just tried the latest embedded testing version 2.10.0.873-21333ad5 with my new RPI3B+. It works so far very well! I was able to connect to my 5GHz Wifi and could play a 1080p video without any problems. Thank you very much @LongChair!

One last thing: Would it be possible to indicate in the file name of the testing images which branch was used to build the image? This would make it easier to understand which might be a working version for my device.

Looks like they built that 1 version to calm us all down since there hasn’t been any new ones since then <_< My build machine will also not compile the latest right now. Will have to do some digging and googling to build a new version.

Yeah the official 2.10 build works pretty well but I would love to see newer versions…

Has anyone been able to use hardware mpeg-2 decoding for live TV to avoid transcoding on the server? I’m currently trying to use the latest PlexMediaPlayer-2.10.0.873-21333ad5.RPi2-arm.img.gz build and I have enabled the mpeg-2 license, but it still wants to transcode live TV.

Can the Plex server send the mpeg-2 stream directly to the pi? I also made a post about it here in the general section hoping to find out if this is even possible.

Thanks

Anyone got a build that doesnt randomly spike in CPU usage and makes the player freeze so a device reboot is needed? This happens both on pi2, 3 and 3+

Gave up waiting and installed OpenTH (Rasplex) instead as this works and does not freeze.

Its not possible to DP LiveTV using PMP on any OS platform including embedded. I do not have an answer to as why.

Thanks for your reply Achilles. Since it appears to work on Android I had hoped it would also work on embedded. Here is a screenshot I just took while tuned to a live TV channel on my Android phone.
