yeah Zulues, I know. Im very leery right now
I will wait a bit more

worse thing i ever did nothing but problems with Plex and Transmission

@chrisallen Here’s my saga. Hopefully you can help me out.
PR4100 OS 5.08.115
PMS app version 1.21.1.3830

I upgraded to OS5 a week or two ago. No issues at all.
Today, I got an email that someone in England (I’m in Nevada) had logged into my Plex account. I immediately logged in and reset my password. I have no idea if this is related or not.
After resetting my password, I logged into app.plex.tv/desktop and it couldn’t see my server. So I tried the local address with the same result.
I reinstalled the PMS bin on the PR4100 and had the same results.
I then removed some key/value pairs from Preferences.xml as described in an article here. Same result.
I removed my server from Authorized Devices (before I found this article). No luck.
Kept digging around and finally landed here.
I uninstalled the PMS app, removed the plexmediaserver folder, reinstalled from the OS5 bin. Still no luck.

I just don’t know what else to try. :frowning:

EDIT: (Link Aggregation set to Adaptive Load Balancing. IPv6 disabled.)

This sounds odd as you have done all the obvious steps. It might be faster to resolve via TeamViewer when your next available. How would 17 hours from now sound? (11:30am Pacific Time) please DM me and we can continue chat there.

I think I’m having some of the similar issues as those in this thread. I updated my WDMyCloud Ex Ultra 2 to OS5. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch. I’m able to add movies to my library and stream them both in and out of my network. However, when trying to add new folders to my library, the “add folder” and “advanced” tab are greyed out. When I choose the type of folder and give it a name, the “next” button never allows me to click it. Then, when I go to my settings and manage>library, I get the dreaded “Server Settings Are Unavailable”.

I’ve read through most of this thread and at this point it’s kind of going in one ear and out the other. I can’t find any Plex Media Folders anywhere on my Mac mini and I’m guessing it’s because I’m running the server through the NAS drive. When configuring the Plex App through the NAS, it just sends me to the web login page.

I’m currently running PlexMediaServer-1.21.1.3830-6c22540d5-MyCloudEX2Ultra_OS5

Can you help point me in the right direction? Would an earlier version of the media server help me here and if so, where can I get it?

chrisallen
oi would appreciate your help again
i was not happy with drive on jbod so switched to raid 05 even though losing 8tb in doing so, but its just quicker when using plex for me
i have tried nuimerouis things to get plex working again
if you have a spare time later for teamviewer , i would much appreciate your help again(File removed)

Is the My Home Duo available still. I’m not seeing that option anymore and I just lost connection today. Deleted the server and now I can’t download the software for the Duo. Any word when this will be fixed? Thanks!

I’m getting the same issue with one of my PR4100 servers, the other updates fine, I was hoping that newer versions of the Plex server app would sort it out, but it is still stuck on Version 1.21.1.3830.

Is this resolved yet please (PR4100 upgrade from OS3 to OS5 and PMS)?

I am having the same post OS3 to OS5 upgrade problem. The PR4100 is using a ton of RAM and not releasing it. I have to routinely go into the UI of the PR4100, turn the Plex Server off and then on, in order to release the RAM. It is very frustrating! I didn’t have this problem before and even upgraded the RAM to 16 GB. My PR4100 is a dedicated Plex Server and no other app is causing an issue like Plex is causing.

I am having similar issues post OS3 to OS5 upgrade. Upgraded a PR2100 and EX4100 to OS5, downloaded the latest Plex Media Server versions (1.22.1.4228) for each from the Plex site, manually installed them using the guide above. When I try to configure app settings for both servers, Plex says that I do not have access to the server. Both servers were accessible before upgrading to OS5

#MeToo

I just updated my PR4100 to OS5. Installed the Plex app that WD presented and can not reach Plex server. Went to plex.tv and manually downloaded and installed the OS5 version from plex.tv as of 3/27. Still can not access Plex server, though the shared folders are still available through Windows Network.

Do I need to uninstall Plex server and restart from scratch?

UPDATE: About a half hour later, the Plex server was suddenly found and is configuring as we speak. Info from my OS3 install did NOT migrate, however, and I’m having to reset up my Plex server from scratch.

Hi I’ve just updated to OS5 and my server hasn’t migrated properly. I checked and there is no plex_conf in the OS3 backup folder.
I did notice that in HD_a2\Nas_Prog folder there is a plex_conf folder in addition to a plexmediaserver folder.
In my plex it is showing a new server called MyCloudPR2100 which is connects to (but no libraries exist). It still shows my old server “Ed-MyCloud”, but can’t connect.
Have I lost my old server metadata etc.?

I’ve done some further checks and it looks like the contents of plex_conf contains the old server data, but not sure how to get this working. Any advice much appreciated

Spoke too soon. Plex apps on Roku and Android TV can not see the server. Nothing but “retry connection.”

UPDATE: Uninstalled Plex Media Server completely from my MyCloud, rebooted, reinstalled the new bin from Plex instead of the one WD was pushing, everything now working fine, just had to remove the old MyCloud server from the list of “authorized servers” in Plex settings (there were TWO “MyCloud” servers listed, the new reinstalled one and the old one from MyClous OS3).

I thought I’d look into this topic again, since my last post back in November 2020…

To be honest I’m pretty staggered that over 6 months further on, it appears everybody posting on here is still having problems with their Plex server since upgrading their WD MyCloud OS3 to OS5. I appreciate many people might have upgraded with no issues and perhaps aren’t even aware of the problems other people have had, but this thread has done absolutely nothing to instil any confidence in me to upgrade to WD OS5. :slightly_frowning_face:

I’m somewhat disappointed that Plex employees/administrators haven’t been more helpful in pointing users to proper resources that will help ensure a trouble free upgrade. If Plex is designed to work on a WD NAS drive running a particular OS, then surely Plex should be making it as easy as possible to ensure it’s end users (and paying customers to those with a Plex Pass) can run Plex server after upgrading without fear of having to completely rebuild their Plex libraries – be that detailed tutorials, or specifically designed migration software.

As it stands, I will keep running Plex on WD MyCloud OS3 and trust this remains fully supported.

I will say at this point for me OS5 has been working great since the upgrade. There have been regular patches and the logon screen is much better. Things seem to work well sharing wise on my Mac. The Time Machine backups work well. Plex has been pretty stable.

I never used Docker from OS3 and I assume that still hasn’t made a return but I do know things take time. The CPU/Memory usage now reports what I assume normal ranges.

For Plex when I new update exists I download it then goto the PR4100 apps screen and do a manual install. It says its already install you sure? I indicate yes and things have been very smooth.

All of that said we each have different use cases and comfort levels and you need to do what puts you in those comfort levels. I wanted to share my positive experiences after the initial update.

Unfortunately my migration was not successful and I’ve had to re-build my libraries. These things happen and there is no point in complaining.

What is harder to accept is the level of support shown by Plex. I have been a self-sufficient lifetime Plex Pass user for over five years. I posted on this thread, waited a week, then sent a private message as @chrisallen suggested, waited two more weeks and still no responses. Had no choice but to reinstall.

I’m now having issues with Metadata for my Music library which is probably related as I didn’t remove all my old files when I reinstalled. Again, no response on forums, no proper support process.

Since I have already invested so much time in this product and already paid for a lifetime subscription I’m unable to vote with my feet, but I hope someone reads this who can improve the support provided to loyal and mainly self-sufficient users.
