Computer shuts off at end of episode

This week I started to have an issue with my computer shutting off at the end of playing a TV episode through plex. The plex server is installed on the computer and the client is a roku. When an episode finishes, plex tries to play the next episode but the plex keeps loading the episode. When I go check the computer it is off. I have to start it by pressing the power button then the episode finishes loading. Both the computer (windows 10) and plex server are updated to the lastest versions.

I checked the cpu temps when playing the TV episodes and they are fine throughout, low 40s is the highest the temp will reach.

Does anyone know what could be leading the computer to shut off at the end of an episode? I never had this issue until this week. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did windows do an update and reset your sleep settings around a week ago?

Also, can you duplicate the problem by fast forwarding through an episode and letting it start a new episode quickly so there isn’t enough time to to really heat up anything?

I hate when my plex goes down for a windows update lol

Best reason to get a NAS for Plex. Microsoft is shooting themselves in the foot for any time sensitive uses for Windows 10.

I have a Synology Nas for plex too but my windows pc does way better at transcoding… :expressionless:

Settings - Server - General - ‘Show Advanced’ - “Support Away Mode when preventing system sleep” <-- Check

If I change this setting then my WOL stops working.

I didn’t see any changes to my sleep settings. Also, fast forwarding did not duplicate the issue.

There is no Plex client in existence which sends a magic packet to the server.
So apparently your WOL only worked by listening for any network traffic directed at the server’s adapter.
Make sure you didn’t chhange any WOL related settings in the server’s BIOS.
Do also inspect any related settings in the Windows properties of the network adapter.
