Change the port forwarding, so it only forwards TCP packets.
UDP is not used for remote connections.
In the Plex web app, go to Settings > Server > Remote Access
put a check mark in front of âManually specify public portâ and type in the âexternalâ port number from your port forwarding rule.
Click âApply/Retryâ.
Ignore any error messages at this point.
After doing that, restart your Plex server and let it sit at least 5 minutes.
Then go to http://canyouseeme.org/ and put in your external port number there and click âCheck Portâ.
If the test says âReachableâ, youâre all set.
Get any device with a plex client, that is not using your home network and try to access your server over a âremoteâ connection.
One more thing i noticed is that now when i click on Retry, for first few seconds its showing Green and says its connected but immediately it again changes to Red and throws the error.
Sorry, donât get your hopes up.
It shouldnât go green at all before it has performed the accessibility check. That is a flaw in the status display.
Then there must be still something wrong with the router.
If youâve set up the portforwarding correctly, it might be either still disabled or there are more filters activated in the router. Does it have a âfirewallâ?
The willingness to help with such issues varies wildly between ISPs.
It is worth a try.
If you contact them, you donât need to tell them that you use Plex.
Just keep your Plex server running and the canyouseeme website in a second browser tab.
That way you can test if the port forwarding is working or not immediately after making configuration changes.
I just spoke with my internet provider. They are saying they have blocked all the ports so port forwarding is not possible. But on request, they can open 40612 and 40613 port.
so, is it possible for Plex to use this port instead of usual 32400?
The port number on the Plex Server machine is fixed to 32400.
Youâll still have to create a port forwarding, because simply âopening a portâ will only make it possible to reach your router at these port numbers from the internet.
But after the packets reach your router, they need to be forwarded to your Plex server machine. And this is what a âport forwardingâ does.
Now if the router allows you to define a port forwarding, where the external/public port number is different from the internal/private port number - youâre all set.
Simply create a port forwarding from
external/public interface of the router, port 40612
to
internal/IP of your Plex server, port 32400
Put the number 40612 into the Plex input mask after âManually specify public portâ.
Again, verify the success with canyouseeme afterwards.
