Connection limit when connecting remotely?

Hey guys,

So I’ve noticed a small problem recently, I’m unsure if it’s new or if I just didn’t notice before. Anyway, as the title suggests I have some bandwidth issue when connecting remotely. Now before we go to the obvious solutions I’d like to clarify a couple things: yes, my internet connection has sufficient bandwidth (300/300) and I have also tried opening a tunnel to my server and accessing it ‘locally’ through said tunnel. In the latter case I had no problems playing high quality items at original quality. At first I suspected my cpu had trouble transcoding, however, nothing changes if I try a pretranscoded file. Then I suspected my router, but since I have no problems connecting through a tunnel I deemed that unlikely.

Note that I am using plex.tv/web, however, the same problem is true for using a direct url to my server. I know that there is a bandwidth cap if plex is unable to connect me directly to my servers, as far as I know this cap is 1mbps for regular user and 2mbps for plex pass members, but the bandwidth seems to be capped around 10mbps and nothing else seems to point at indirect connections. I have also gone over my server’s settings and made sure there is no limitations there on remote bandwidth etc. So can it have something to do with the routing from plex to my local servers?

Anyone having the same problem? Better yet, anyone know a solution that does not involve vpn or ssh tunnels?

Cheers, niknoe

Have you tried updating to PMS version 1.5.3.x? As of 1.5.2.x there was a fix for the issue you are describing.

Great, I though my server was up to date, but apparently I have been a little on the lazy side there. I will check that as soon as possible, thanks for the reply!
