Consistent Metadata and Local Extras Issues

I have been having issues with metadata refreshing and local extras for a while that I’ve mostly been able to work around, but they are becoming harder to fix and it’s clear something is wrong.

If my library is on the new Plex Movie scanner, Plex will not recognize local extras at all. It will find the cast list from TMDb. It will not find a poster that has been added to TMDb since I added the title to my Plex library. When I refresh metadata on the title, the new poster continues not to be seen, as does the local extra.

If I switch back to The Movie Database as my scanning agent and refresh the metadata, it loses the cast list—this seems to happen when I have added a title to TMDb myself somewhat recently, but it is never able to grab it at any point in the future, no matter how many times I hit “Refresh Metadata.” It also will not find the local extra. The only way I can get it to see the local extra is if I unmatch the title and then match it again (still TMDb as the scanning agent). Then suddenly it finds the local extra—which means I have it named correctly—but it still refuses to show the cast list.

My options seem to be: keep my library on The Movie Database, will lose out on cast lists if Plex can’t find the cast list when I initially add the title. It will not be able to grab it in the future. Some amount of moving files around and unmatching and matching is usually required to get it to see extras that have always been there.

OR

I can swap to the new Plex Movie agent, which I know is what Plex WANTS me to do, and I will get the cast list, but I will not get the local extra displayed. I have not succeeded in getting that extra to show up at all if the agent is set to Plex Movie. It will also not grab the poster that has been added to TMDb after I added the title to Plex.

It’s like there is some disconnect somewhere where my server will not actually refresh metadata. I’ve cleared caches. I’ve cleaned bundles. I’ve optimized the database. I’ve done the plex dance cleaning bundles and caches along the way. Nothing makes the above behavior change at all. I feel like I’m going insane.

I dearly hope someone can help. Posting a log in which you will see me do all of the above.

Also—I have also disable ipv6 on my server based on some other forum posts I’ve read specifically about metadata refresh. That did not have any effect, and all these posts were fairly old so I’m not even sure that was something it made sense to do anymore.

Your logs show that you have the option enabled to automatically scan you library when changes are detected. There is an unfortunate side effect of this feature that if you have extras in folders, these will not get found as extras, but will be detected as their own movies. You need to use the inline naming method for extras. Give that a try and see if that works.
