Constant Buffering on Xbox One

Same issue. Watching Plex on Xbox buffers randomly where I need to stop and start again, resuming where I left off. Unfortunate when this happens late enough in the movie/show where it triggers the item to be done watching. No issues when watching on my Nvidia shield.

Same issue here, there is a workaround:

  • Install Kodi on your Xbox One
  • Launch Kodi, goto addons; search for Plex and install Plex
  • Run Plex Addon
  • In Plex settings enable X265
  • In Plex settings set remote quality to original
  • Set Plex addon to run at Kodi startup.

When you startup Kodi Plex will run from Kodi and the problems are gone …

Are you getting real HDR when using this method? Everything stated in the past says that the Kodi addon when using it on the Xbox will strip out the HDR meta data and not play it back in the proper color range.

You are right about that, Kodi for windows does not support HDR.

Yea that makes it pretty useless for me as my buffer issues are really bad on 4k HDR videos

It is stunning how much more responsive Plex via Kodi is vs the native Plex Xbox One app. More responsive as an app, in general, and playback/navigation of recorded tv is snappy and buffering-free.

SMDH

(No live TV support though so that’s a bummer)

Hola, it’s me again @deactivated.

Nice job on the implementation of the ad-supported media, it plays perfectly with no buffering and few ads(when you aren’t using an adblocker). Not sure what yall did, but it works as expected.

This brings me to my point, why does the ad-supported content play flawlessly, but something on my own lan won’t, still? How is that possible?

  • Unusable app due to constant buffering
  • Thread nearly 2 years old same issue exists
  • Plex offering no support aside from a few throw-away comments
  • Large number of Plex users using Xbox One client
  • Many users paid up with lifetime passes
  • Issue seems to go away, sometimes for even months at a time but comes back again
  • Moussa from Plex seemed to be the only Plex employee showing any interest but now seems to have disappeared?
  • If Plex can and will comment and that comment is that they cannot fix it for whatever reason a refund is due

If they delete the Plex for Xbox app, does that entitle you to a refund? You can’t expect every client to work perfectly across the billion devices that exist. Don’t use a ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  xbox app if you want a good user experience, get an htpc like any normal person.

That’s a stupid attitude, Xbox has 50 million console out i the wild it is a pretty big target for a plex app and the hardware is better than most of these streaming boxes. No reason the plex app should not perform well on it.

Any updates on this at all?

Any workarounds for 4K HDR Movies with Atmos and DTS Master?

Same thing over on FB. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10158048800712859&id=49517712858&ref=m_notif&notif_t=feed_comment_reply

I’m just going to send as many error reports via the Xbox console as soon as i see the buffering on any video until they fix it.

My tv plays the files fine Hisense 65R8… Just have to watch my 4K HDR stuff on the TV for now…

Zero workarounds, both plex and MS are aware of the issue but it seems like neither can fix it

Can or can be bothered?

Apparently they can’t be bothered to fix that which we’ve paid for.

Its starting to piss me off, brand new 4K TV and looks like i need to buy a nvidia shield or an apple tv just for plex now.

I had exactly the same problem as most of you. Xbox One X + RPI 4 with latest Plex server. Very often with buffering, then I followed someones advice in this page and installed Kodi and Plex Addon. It’s not the best solution but I have not seen any buffering problems since I changed two days ago. I will keep looking the discussions here until Plex decide to fix this problem. Blaming Microsoft is cheap because Kodi is working using the same platform.

Herein lies the problem, you being a Plex Pass holder, like I and every other paying customer, paid for support and working software. I’m not one to cling to entitlements, but that exchange of cash from us to them, entitles us to support and their duty to maintain their software.

We shouldn’t have to use other software to interact with and use as expected, that which we’ve paid for.

Edited for clarity.

Only issue is kodi doesnt offer HDR
