Constant Errors ON PMS Since DMS7 Upgrade

I upgraded to DSM7 on my Synology DS218j and ever since then I’ve had nothing but problems. Last night I thought I was getting somewhere as after uninstalling and re-installing PMS I seemed to get it working. Today however | can’t get access to it via http://192.168.135.102:32400/web and Plex amp and app.plex TV won’t see anything. On app.plex.tv I get either app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “NetworkDrive” securly or Something went wrong
An unexpected error occurred.

If I try and get access via Plexamp on my Iphone (either tracks or playlists) I get nothing to see.

Can anyone please point me in the right direction as to where I’m going wrong. Also I noticed that as I wiped all the Plex files to try and start a new installation last night, it took ages to find all my music. I know I have a large library (aprox 79,500) but before the update i didn’t struggle.

First, there was probably no reason to wipe it out and start over.
If we looked at the log files, we almost always find the root problem and can fix it. It’s VERY rare to need to start over.

I can’t speak to Plexamp but can help you with DSM.

Which version of PMS is installed ?

  • From Plex.tv/downloads ?
    or
  • From Synology Package Center ?

From Synology downloads.

@kido25_protonmail_com

Thank you. That’s the root problem

  1. That’s a beta package. We’ve been trying to get Synology to publish the Released version – but that’s not going very well. Bottom line, that package is not fully compatible with the final release of DSM 7 and here we are now at 7.0.1

  2. Were you able to get your DSM 6 server info to migrate into DSM 7?

  3. I would very much like to get you to the official and current PMS package on DSM 7. ( Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More )

Thank you for your help.

I’ve downloaded and installed the package from the link you sent me, however I’m still having the same issues,

My server seems ok. I can access all my documents that are stored on the drives.

@kido25_protonmail_com

Please download the server logs and attach them here and/or tell me what the specific errors are.

I suspect you need to change permissions to grant PlexMediaServer permission to read your files (a required change)

Plex Crash Uploader.1.log (193 Bytes)
Plex Crash Uploader.log (193 Bytes)
Plex Media Server.1.log (10.0 MB)
Plex Media Server.2.log (793.9 KB)
Plex Media Server.3.log (6.9 MB)
Plex Media Server.4.log (10.0 MB)
Plex Media Server.5.log (10.0 MB)

Hope these are what you need.

Let’s start with getting the Database in order. It might not be the root problem but it most certainly is the most visible problem impacting the whole thing.

In the future: Settings - Server - Troubleshooting (left panel) - Download Logs
will give you a single ZIP file to upload.

It makes it easier for both of us

Thank you for your help. I did download the zip file but it wouldn’t send it.

Please could you tell how I go about the optimazation of the files on DSM 7.

To manually optimize the database -

In the left panel -

  • Hover over the server name
  • Expose the ellipsis
  • Manage Server
  • slide to the right to “Optimize Database”

(Apologies – my screenshot could not capture it)

@ChuckPa hope this helps

Thanks! That’s the one :+1:

Hi, Unfortunately I can’t do that as My Network Drive is greyed out.

My laptop is on the same network as my Network Drive and can access DSM without issue.

@kido25_protonmail_com

Is “Netowork Drive 1” a Synology?

Whatever it is, your first priority is to get it back to being seen by plex.tv – so it will then show in Plex/web

Yes it is.

Let’s try this

  1. Open an incognito browser window
  2. Now open the Synology by direct IP address : http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
  3. Please tell me what happens .

( I suspect it will want to claim again )

It comes up with This site can’t be reached.

Package Center says it’s running?

What does Resource Monitor show?
( Can you see any “PlexMediaServer” processes?)

Yes the package centre says it’s running.

This is what the resource Monitor shows,

I’m assuming it’s nothing to do with the size of my music library of about 80,000 tracks.

Stop Plex

Open FileStation

Navigate PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server

Right-click Logs → Compress to Logs.zip

When complete, download the ZIP and please attach here for me to review.
