Continue Watching Hub Bug

Server Version#: 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: 6.4.10.6174-1475be6a9-Plex Preview
(and also the latest Public Version of the app)

When using Automatic Home Continue Watching and the field it occupies is dynamic. Comes and goes as required.

When using Manual Home Continue Watching appears when necessary, but the field it occupied (the GIANT Blank Space) never goes away unless you completely reload the app.

In a possibly unrelated incident:
Yesterday evening/EARLY this morning, my Roku suddenly came up in Portuguese and really blew my mind. Finding and changing that back to English is quite a challenge - if you don’t speak Portuguese. <---- Sorry. I didn’t explore the Plex App at that time, so it’s unknown if the Plex App was also speaking Portuguese.

I suspect the quick-fire Roku Updates may have been a player in this. After I regained English I cycled my sign-in and rebooted (everything) a few times - all appears normal. At This Time - apart from the Continue Watching Hub Bug that persists.

Sounds like a cache issue, with a bit of corruption through in.

That sort of thing does your head in

The Roku Uno App (Plex’s UNO Flagship) is normally very well behaved and problems like this are… frustrating, but we hope, short-lived.

As Plex is an app, can you push the same install and overwrite

You mean The Standard Roku Hail Mary:
Uninstall/Reboot/Reinstall
(The Roku Version of The Plex Dance)

Been There, Done That, Have The Autographed T-Shirt.
(we got our butts kicked in the 4th quarter - the Hail Mary was a dismal failure)

Oh, then there only Puff the Magic Dragon. It can resolve a lot Mind blowing things

THAT - is working fine.

Correct, see all fixed now

The underlying issue persists - Continue Watching Hub Bug - active.

Resorting to crappy cell phone images…

Where it goes:

Where it was:

Maybe we can get a banner for Plex Movies and TV in that giant expanse of under-developed real estate…

… and the reason I’d like to enable Manual Home - and The Continue Watching from ‘Movies’ ONLY - is that for 48 years I’ve been looking at the redundancy of Continue Watching and On Deck - and thought this may, finally, be a way to fix that…

Enter Continue Watching Hub Bug.

Being the curious sort, I just attempted to reproduce this issue on my Roku Premiere; I was unable to do so. These are the steps I followed:

  1. I set my Home Screen to be manually managed (select 3 dots to the left of Home, select manage manually).
  2. I started playing an item from my library (actually, I tested from both my TV and Movie libraries) and stopped it before the end.
  3. I verified the item showed in my Continue watching list.
  4. I selected it again for playback starting at the last position, and then let it finish.
  5. Upon exiting back to the home screen, my Continue Watching list disappeared as did the space it was occupying.

I also did a variant of the above test where, at step 4, instead of playing the item to conclusion I marked it as played. The results were the same.

I’m running PMS 1.18.6.2368 on a macOS host, using version 6.4.10 of the Plex app for Roku.

Disable Automatic Home

Remove Continue Watching from Home - there has to be something in it or a hard home hub edit.

Watch 01:40 of a movie

Go to Movies

Hit Recommended

Go to Continue Watching

Plant CW on the Home screen - ONLY for Movies

Go Home

See Continue Watching

Play or mark as watched

See Giant Blank Space - that never goes away until you reload the app

Continue Watching Hub Bug

I was able to get into the condition you describe. I was then able to correct it. To do so I:

  1. Set home back to Manage Automatically and ensured I had no items in Continue Watching.
  2. Uninstalled the Plex Preview app (I also uninstalled the non-preview Plex app as well as I wasn’t sure if they shared configuration).
  3. Reinstalled the Plex Preview app, opened it, and relinked it to my account. I also set it to login automatically, but I doubt that has any bearing here.
  4. With the home screen at its default (automatically managed) I watched a movie partially to ensure it showed up in Continue Watching (it did). I then marked it played to ensure it was removed from Continue Watching as was the space it was occupying (it was).
  5. Set the the home screen to be manually managed by selecting the three dots to the left of Home and selecting Disable (Manually Manage).
  6. Removed two hubs that I did not want on my home screen (Shows On Now and Sports On Now).
  7. Watched a movie partially to ensure it showed up in Continue Watching (it did).
  8. Went to the Recommended tab of my movie library and removed the Continue Watching hub from my home screen. I then added back Continue Watching from only my movie library.
  9. On my home screen, moved the Continue Watching hub back to the top of the list.

At this point I am able to use the Continue Watching hub as expected again. Movies I watch partially cause it to appear. When the movie is marked played, marked unplayed, or watched to the end the hub and the space it occupied are removed.

In my case what got it into the bad state was a combination of the steps you outlined and doing a “Restore Default Home Screen.”

Thanks for the report @JuiceWSA . We will file and investigate with the steps you’ve included.

Thank You.

Well… that’s quite a work-around… I’ll have to try that one tomorrow when I absorb all the steps.

Bug squashed.

Thanks.
