Continue Watching Issues

Since the release of these new “experience” features Continue Watching seems to have some Issues. (Although I will admit, they do seem to be intermittent and random. Which of course makes it harded to pinpoint.)

Start off watching an episode, fine. all works as expected Audio/Video Direct Plays and dashboard reports the same.

Episode finishes and countdown gets to next episode and playback should start, but the screen goes black and nothing seems to happen, dashboard does not show anything playing, although there does seem to be network activity. If you wait for a while (up to a few minutes), it may start playing. At which point the dashboard will show it playing, but it is missing the information block that shows the audio and video streams, so you cannot see if it is direct play or transcoding (does not show those details in Plex Dash either)

If you get bored waiting and go back to list of episodes and manually play the next episode, then it starts immediately and the dashboard (and Plex Dash report correctly)

It makes the idea of being able to change the countdown timer a bit pointless if you then have to wait for ages before it actually starts playing.

I have not tried recently to get client logs, but I am not sure if I can, as I think (unless it has changed) it only logs for a little while, so it has stopped logging before the problem happens

I have no solution but I am here to confirm I had had the same behavior in the Apple TV. Countdown to next episode and then black screen. Going back to the episode list and choosing the episode plays it correctly. It does not happen always.

ah well, thanks for the info, as I was wondering if it was worth looking for any black friday deals on appleTV’s as the androidTV app has (to be polite…) so many issues. I guess not.
