Here is a thread which discusses failure of PMS transcoder across multiple platforms with files containing TrueHD audio, apparently because of a memory leak.
Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but here’s my log after getting similar issues. Would really appreciate any help that can be provided here,. since currently my server is pretty much unusable. Plex Media Server Logs_2018-07-15_16-21-49.zip (5.2 MB)
It doesnt seem to be connected to TrueHD audio…
All of my 4k files are HEVC, i will try to see if the transcoder also crashes when trancoding 1080p files. It will probably take longer time before the transcoder reacher 3800MB and crash though.
Since i reset all of my settings as recommended by you, it always crashes arund min 24, so the 20min clip i sent you before will not be usefull to test with.
Someone pointed you to another thread already here: Optimizing 4k titles causes Plex to freeze - TrueHD audio the problem?
That may not be the same issue as what’s reported in this thread, but I would appreciate if someone from Plex took a look. It’s quite an annoying issue for me right now and it really does seem to be a TrueHD audio problem.
checked it with several 1080p files. The transcoder only hovers around 700MB when transcoding those. All of my 4k Movies crash after a while though. All of them are HEVC, not sure if thats connected. The Ram usage of the plex transcoder just climbs higher and higher until it reaches ~3880MB and then i get the error message “transcoder exited due to an error”
Thanks for checking
I have a problem at the moment - in that i cannot reproduce the issue with the 20 minute sample. My memory usage peaked at 2,539 Mb using these playback parameters

It probably means i need a longer period sample
I have uploaded a new 40min. test sample in the dropbox folder.
Thanks - managed to get a clip from another user - on this forum topic Help! Plex Transcoder Exited due to an error - possible RAM issue? and i have reproduced the error
It is now with the development team.
It appears that the crash does not occur when selecting AC3 audio stream instead of TrueHD - that was the case for the clip we got from the other user
So can i delete the clip from my dropbox, since i dont have any space anymore.
I tried it with an ac3 audio stream and it indeed didnt crash, but the movie keeps stopping and loading every 2 minutes for a few seconds
Yes you can delete it. We are using the new clip to recreate the issue
This appears to be the same issue that I pointed you to earlier. All videos with TrueHD will fail transcoding, whether 4K or standard Blu ray. Seems to be caused by a memory leak. https://forums.plex.tv/t/optimizing-4k-titles-causes-plex-to-freeze-truehd-audio-the-problem/238970/17
Possibly. Initially it was said that it was not related to TrueHD but now we know it is. Can’t see any memory allocation errors in the one set of logs provided in that topic - A link has already been made to this thread
i dont think its an issue with truehd, im getting this exact error repeatedly regardless of video resolution and audio type. i get the error on version 1.13.5.5271, and .5291. the only thing i notice is all affected videos are .mkv for me, at least when it happens to me. usually when i kill the plex process tree and try to restart, its usually the dlna server that hangs and wont close, but not always, sometimes its the server and sometimes the tuner service. i usually have to restart the pc to get plex running again. ive skimmed the logs, but theres so much and i dont have the time. i have several remote users as well who could be triggering the issue and a large set of libraries, im running win7pro 64bit, brand new ram 32gb, i7 and 1080ti. I will be sending you by Private Message a link to a development build for you to try and let me know if the memory issue gets fixed for HEVC and TrueHD
SA2000, much appreciated that you are getting this issue addressed. Any chance I could get a copy of the development build that might fix the TrueHD problem? Just purchased several new 4K movies, and all have TrueHD audio. Thanks in advance
I will need to check if I have looked any logs from you for the issue and if there was an indication of a memory leak
yesterday i got the “transcoder exited” error with a 1080p movie. even though it was played on a 4k tv.
I didnt even know it was transcoded. thought its a direct play.
Unfortunetly didnt monitor whats going on in the background.
Will try the development build today.
Tried one of my new movies, and it failed as usual when TrueHD audio is present. Here are the logs. If I remove TrueHD, the movie will optimize normally.
I can see a memory allocation failure on your windows PMS
Aug 03, 2018 20:45:38.096 [5212] ERROR - [Transcoder] av_interleaved_write_frame(): Cannot allocate memory
I am not at my laptop but I will try and add you to the testing of the new development build - should be easier than looking at the logs on an ipad !
