Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

Hey Guys,

i just installed Plex (Version 1.13.0.5023) on my HP Microserver Running Open Media Vault 4.1.3 on it and purchased a Plex
Pass for one year.
Everything works fine except of streaming my files from outside of my home network.

Example:
I try to stream a media file with wifi turned of from my phone. After some loading time I get the error:
Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.

Connection to my server works. Playing media not.

Are you known of this error and know how to solve it?

Btw. Plex is running with Docker.
Internet speed:
Download: 20.72 Mbps
Upload: 2.16 Mbps (from my local computer with a dLan Adapter - Server is connected directly to my switch so maybe a bit faster)

Somehow i cant upload the .rar archive of my Log folder…

Greetings

Small Update:

I did some research and it seems that my Internet Connection is based on DS Lite.
Is this maybe the reason I can access my Server from Outside of my home network (IPv4) only partially?

When I am at home I’ll try to set up a DDNS with Port Mapping. Hope this will solve my problem.

For some reason i cant write new Comments here. Thats why I edit.
I added the Logs.

Update:
Kernel Log File added.

Another Update:
Guys why cant I write new comments?
Thank you for your answers. I will try downgrading when I am home from work.

Last Update:
Guys u are amazing. Had to delete noexec in /etc/openmediavault/config.xml.

Please provide the server logs. The transcoder errors are not related to the network.

Edit: From your description I get it that you use the official Docker image. So moving this thread to the Docker forum.

I just saw your logs. The Transcoder is crashing and apparently not because of a configuration error. Please reproduce the crash and get the last lines of the Linux kernel log, e.g. with sudo dmesg.

Your CPU (AMD Turion™ II Neo N40L Dual-Core Processor) is at the very low end. Additionally, a friend of mine has the same HP “server” and excessive heat has always been an issue for him and has caused Transcoder crashes. The cooling is rather bad. As far as I can see, the Transcoder crashes also not right at the start but some minutes into the stream. This is another indication that the CPU is overheating. But let’s take a look at the sudo dmesg output.

I’m getting the same error. The host server for the docker container (Version 1.13.2.5102) is Ubuntu 16.04 with Intel Xeon E5620s and 32GB RAM. I’m not seeing any errors in dmesg when this error shows up. I’ve restarted the container a few times and there are more than enough resources free. I tested the video internally, and externally, and it only errors externally using the same device (Moto x4).

@cymor @Altaratee Please try to downgrade to the previous release (Docker tag “1.12.3.4973-215c28d86”). It appears the 1.13.x binaries could be currently incompatible with your old CPUs.

I will have a pre-beta development build to make available to anyone who has provided logs that showed this error Plex Transcoder' exit code for process xxxxx is -4 (signal: Illegal instruction)

If you have logs that show this error when transcoding trailers, please confirm to me which platform / binary is required if you are willing to try it out

If you believe that you have this issue but have not posted logs, please do with debug logging enabled

Btw: if it’s not the illegal instruction error both of you should take a look at the solution in the following thread.

Solved the issue via PM. OMV adds “noexec” by default. Another helpful link is this one:

Mine turned out to be a permissions issue with the volume I added to support transcoding (/transcode). I set the permissions to 777, and it started working fine.
