"Conversion failed. The Transcoder Exited due to an Error"

I’ve been getting this error every 5-10 minutes while watching a video on Plex, music is fine but every video has this issue.

I’ve tried searching the web and I find lots of forum topics here of people either saying “yeah it’s a problem I dunno how to fix it” or saying to downgrade to an older version (which I tried and still didn’t work). I’m on the most up-to-date server and still having this issue.

My computer runs windows 10, if that’s necessary to know. I didn’t want to include all of the logs in the entire zip file in a public post on the internet, but I think I narrowed the log down to the relevent section. The error, this time, happened for me somewher in the 20:04 time-frame. I redacted personal information (my name and IP address, though it was a local IP address I’m still paranoid).

The issue happens regardless of device, whether it’s on the computer plex media server is running on, my laptop on my home network, or my laptop on an external network.

Any advice on how to go about solving this issue would be appreciated, aside from this very annoying issue Plex is an amazing service.

Edit: I’d like to point out that I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling plex media server and that didn’t work :frowning:

I m having the exact same issue and its doing it on xbox one and android phone and windows devices.

I’ve only had this problem one time before and found out later the file was corrupt(video stream damaged). re-encodded the file fixed the issue.

I’m no expert on PMS logs but I do see one problem area from your logs.
ERROR - [Transcoder] av_interleaved_write_frame(): Unknown error

You have similar errors in your logs.

The two of you can test the integrity of the file with ffmpeg.
Open a command window and run this command

ffmpeg.exe -v error -i "FullPathPlusVideoFileDotExtension" -f null -

ffmpeg will report any errors as it finds them on screen.

I found out what the issue was with Plex it is the new Windows update with the security update from 7/10 2018 kb4338819 os build 17134.165. I uninstalled it and restarted the computer and Plex works properly

Awesome, good for you!!

Trying this out. Having the same issue. Hopefully this fixes it. Any idea why this particular update caused it?

I am not sure why the update did this, but it does work, now since I removed that update, and I had to make it so Windows 10 would not install that update again for now.

Better solution is to continue your Windows updates and simply roll back to back to Plex v1.13.2.5154

The 1.13.4.52xx updates both had the conversion issue for me.

You can find old versions on your computer:
C:\Users[USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates

Seems to be that a windows update can fix it as well.
