So what is being done about this issue? After spending all day trying to debug my issue, I finally stumbled across this post, but there was no attempt at notifying users at all in the meantime. This is incredibly disappointing/frustrating…
I also spent 12 hours yesterday trying to get my server working again after the update to 1.40.1.8251. OTA Live TV was completely broken by this update and libraries were unable to be added or edited. I then tried the beta server version and that version is still broken in this same way. I even did a factory reset on my shield and started from scratch and that didn’t help either. I ended up installing version 1.32.7.7596 that I had found somewhere online and everything is working again. Of course this type of problem on a Shield is particularly troublesome since you can’t easily downgrade versions and you lose everything.
i had the same problems as above. after downgrading to version 1.32.8.7639. the server wizard started up and its possible to reinstall all libraries. when i start a scan of the libraries it finds the media but makes and error parsing the content. so every single file cant be played error s1001 and shows up as missing sound and subs and the xml is incomplete.
gave the pms always on storage permissions nothing works.
edit:
got it working again. did another factory reset of the shield. then stopped auto update of pms before it started everything looks like everything is working in version 1.25.3.5448. if you can stop the update of pms it works. but if it updates and you manually downgrade it the problems with sound, subs, xml file, permissions persists. hella weird error.
Can someone please detail how to downgrade without losing our library data?
I only want to add that I personally find the newish approach of explaining things much better than the radio silence from previous years.
We have identified the problem and are in the process of releasing a fix to the production and beta releases. Once the update comes out you can update and your libraries will be restored (if you have not uninstalled or wiped the data).
When will you solve it? Now not all Shield PMS users can use it.
That’s great to hear. Thank you for updating us.
Will it be available today?
Please oh please hint us an ETA for your fix… I’ve wasted too much time trying to figure this out… every device and client is giving a different error code or message - what a mess
While we could tested a nightly build to ensure that we fixed the problem, the design of the Play store strikes again by not allowing us to install the build in the alpha track. So while this build should work as it contains the fix, the Play store refuses to let us install the exact build we wish to release. So instead of continuing to fight this, we’ve pushed this version to beta and now it is waiting review by the play store.
Will non Plex Pass users like myself be able to get this beta version fix?
Edit: Seems this is all you need for beta access. Working again on my end now. Phew…
same here, I was going crazy, resetting my shield again and again and seeing the problem systematically reappear.
I’m glad I discovered this thread lol even if i have to redo the whole configuration of my shield now.
When will it be on general release rather than beta?
I signed up for plex pass monthly so I can get the release. I’ll buy the lifetime pass if somebody from plex PM’s me a promo code though.
Why don’t you just offer the apk for sideloading if the play store prevents paying customers to get the fixed version?
I messed around with my setup for the last couple of days and probably have to reinstall the whole thing once more. It’s not so long ago we had a similar problem killing Plex and I’m getting tired of it.
Sign up for the beta here direct from the play store. You don’t need to pay. https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb
If you’re in the beta for the Plex Media Server android app, its been updated and the problems described seem to have been fixed.
Any idea when it will be released in the normal channel (non-beta)?
It is already is. It was submitted about an hour ago and Google said it was published half an hour ago. Though that doesn’t mean that you’ll actually see it yourself because the Play store can be slow to show updates.
