Core component problem, I can't add libraries, any help appreciated

Server Version#: (Nvidia Shield Pro) 1.40.1.8251
Player Version#: (Plex Web) 4.125.1

This has all been working fine until a power cut a few days ago. So I’ve reset the Nvidia Shield Pro to factory default settings and re-installed the plex server from the Play Store. Now I have this problem.

When I first open the web player, I get the following error: ‘A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.’ I can click on the tabs and go through the name, libraries and finish setup and reach the main home page. But I can’t then add any libraries. There’s a language drop-down which has no values and the Next button is greyed out.

Any help, very much appreciated.

I have the same issue. There’s an issue I believe with the latest version of Plex Media Server on Nvidia Shield and a “core component”.

Downgrading to 1.32.8 has fixed the issue for me. I also noticed that when on 1.40 version I lost access to my USB TV tuner. Hopefully Plex can look into this.

I downgraded to Plex Media Server 1.32.8.7639 and it’s fixed this issue. Thanks.

@gbooker02 is this something you are aware of? I’ve also seen posts on Reddit to the same effect.

Upgrading to the latest stable version on Nvidia Shield Plex Media Server causes the TV Tuner to be unable to be found by Plex.

If starting the server from scratch, the error message “A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server”. You can jump to the end and click finish, but still the Tuner is not picked up.

Downgrading to the previous version allows the TV Tuner to be picked up and also the error message is no longer present when starting a new install from scratch.

THANK YOU @gunnersboy

I am not joking when I say i have spent almost 7 hours trying to find a solution. I factory resetted twice, removed the USB, cleared data + uninstalled + re-installed plex services god knows how many times and did seemingly a hundred different irrelevant things only for the solution to be downgrading pms to the version previous. You won the internetz today my man, i can finally take a breath and eat for the first time today lol, I was obsessed with this issue, but no more.

@sa2000 just tagging you for awareness as well. This updated over night for me and I’ve turned off auto updates until this has been fixed.

Can this be escalated?

I am in the same situation, plus I have reset everything several times thinking it was my problem and I have lost my entire database… I am really angry. Could someone be so kind as to put the link to the apk of the previous version plz?

He doesnt work for plex anymore. I was afraid of this, made a post a few weeks ago on this beta update. I think the Sheild at this point has very few beta testers left. Now something has creeped its way onto the stable release. sigh

Thank you so much¡¡¡

Ah that’s a shame. Any idea who we can tag for awareness instead?

Same issue with the Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 over here.

Hours of troubleshooting led me here as well. I cannot access the library languages or any storage devices with the following versions:

2024/04/17 - Plex Media Server (Beta) 1.40.2.8312, can’t read languages or filesystem when adding libraries
2024/04/17 - Plex Media Server (offical Google Play) 1.40.1.8251, same issue

I am able to configure the server and access the library languages and filesystems fine with:

2024/04/17 - Plex Media Server (plex.tv forum version) 1.32.7.7596, side loaded and app updates disabled, no reported issues

@chris_decker08 seems to be very lively in this thread:

We are looking into this. Google policy changes forced us to change how we packaged PMS and then the play store required all channels to have the new packaging type before they would approve it on any channel, essentially preventing us from testing anything

Is it possible to pull the update? Edit: Maybe keep it in beta since we still need to test.

Thanks for acknowledging this! If there is any testing you need assistance with I will try and help. 15+ year plex user here(since the beginning).

Unfortunately it is not possible to pull the update, any updates require the new packaging and since thats where the bug is…

In case you want additional details:

  • Google was rejecting our attempts to push newer versions to internal testing and beta testing channels while the version in the release channel was packaged with APK. This has been the case for over a month now. So it left us with an all or nothing with the new packaging.
  • There no longer appears to be any way to ever pull a release once it has been reviewed and released. There was in the past but no longer. We tried to do this yesterday but found the mechanism to pull a release no longer exists.
  • We cannot re-issue the old release with a newer android version because the older one is packaged as APK and the play store will no longer accept this packaging
  • Re-packaging an older version won’t work because the issue is in the packaging.

Thanks for the information. So what’s the plan on getting it fixed? Do you know what’s causing the issue and then obviously it’s getting it built and released?

I’ve never downgraded a plex server version before, is there a current guide on how to do this? Also, it was working great before the update…is it possible to block all future updates for all of my plex clients and servers?

edit: *a guide to do this on a nvidia shield
