NVIDIA shield mdeia server broken

Hi

I am getting the following error message when trying to access my server “A problem has been detected with a core component of Plex Media Server.”

I have tried everything, including factory resetting my shield and reinstalling everything from scratch, but whatever I do I keep getting this error and can’t go any further.

I have uploaded my logs below, would really appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Thanks
Tom

The new PMS update on nvidia shield seems broken. Not sure what we are to do. Core component problem, I can't add libraries, any help appreciated

Folks saying downgrading to last december release and blocking updates is the solution for now. I’m hoping for a guide on doing this on the nvidia shield. I’m kinda clueless and really dont want to have to redo my libraries again.

As far as I’m aware there is no “easy” way to downgrade. You have to uninstall PMS from your SHIELD TV and then side load an older APK. After that, you have to start from scratch. It’s a PITA for sure, but there’s no way around it :(.

Having said that, I did just that (even did a factory reset on my SHIELD), and it still does not work. I can’t add a Music library and every time I try to play media I get an error message:

"An error occurred trying to play “”.

Error code: s1001 (Network)"

So just to confirm, you are running PMS 1.32 and still failing?

Yes. Movies and TV Shows are visible (and I can edit those libraries), playback does not work on any device.

Well this goes over my head. If its not the 1.40 update that caused these issues, I dunno what did.

Your troubleshooting helped me!! Back to my movies!! Thanks manticore1991!!

I had same issue, after Plex Server upgraded on Nvidia Shield, new files would not work. Uninstalled new version and installed older version using X-PLore (side load .apk). Logout/Login and back to working!!

P.S. New Plex Server version does work on Windows, making it harder to troubleshoot on Android device. Be sure to not allow APPS to upgrade AUTO in Google App Store on Android!!

Hi,
I came here trying to look for answers because the same thing was happening to me.
After trying a few things on my end it seems like I found a way to make it work on my side without having to go back to a previous version. For me setting the permissions on the app to allow touching all files. Here’s the steps I followed:

  • Go to Settings → Apps → See all apps
  • Scroll all the way down and click Show system apps
  • Scroll down until you find Plex Media Server (click on it)
  • Click on Force stop
  • Click on Permissions
(Here’s the weird part: it was showing Files and media - Don’t allow and it still does after the change)
  • Select Files and media
  • Select Allow only while using the app
  • Go back
  • Select Files and media (again)
  • Select Allow all the time
  • Go back
(Like I mentioned before, even after selecting that option when you go back it still shows Files and media - Don’t allow)
  • Go back (again)
  • Select Open to launch PMS
  • It will just open a page with a button - select the button to launch Plex (and for me it started working again.)

I had also deleted the PMS cache files before but not sure if it’s required to be honest since that alone hadn’t worked.

My PMS version is 1.40.2.8395
Hope this helps someone.
