Core Manager for Plex Arcade

no idea how to do that

We have a support article for that. https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-game-files-and-cores/

Is there a way to get Capcom CPS1-3 and NeoGeo/MVS working yet? What about Cave shooters?

No, you cannot install cores that are not specifically listed as being supported.

These systems are supported by MAME, and there are multiple MAME cores. However they do require a bios. The Cave shooters would work in theory.

Plex isn’t using MAME. Plex only supports specific cores.

I don’t know what Cave shooters are.

(We are actually using MAME as a core.)

It might just work, or if it’s a MESS-like driver inside MAME it would take us adding it. Not familiar with them specifically.

Edit: Using Mame2010 + Mame core works for CPS1/2. No luck on 3. Also merging neogeo.zip didn’t solve anything.

MAME should support CPS1 CPS2 CPS3 by default without any extras. Same with Neogeo / MVS / AES. I don’t believe CPS needs a bios, but Neogeo does (neogeo.zip).

Some links that could show you about how those are supported usually:

MAME, CPS1/2/3, NeoGeo: so different but many things in common! - RetroArch / General - Libretro Forums

For Cave, these are Japanese shoot em ups! It’s mostly the 68000 and CV1000:

CAVE 1st Generation Hardware - Arcade Otaku Wiki
I’m confident the 68k is supported by default in MAME as well.

Neo Geo works if you put the bios file in the ROMs folder. I specifically got them running with the standard MAME Libretro core, but not MAME2003-Plus, which is the romset I use. Didn’t test out Cave. CPS1 and CPS2 are fine, but CPS3 doesn’t launch for me (I am using a mismatched romset so that may be the issue).

any word on more advanced emulators? Like reicast for flycast for the dreamcast?

anyone know where the supported Cores are listed for Plex?

Support cores are listed in our FAQ, https://support.plex.tv/articles/plex-arcade-faq/. No news on more cores. Probably need to see how users take to this feature first.

Love the core manager, simple tool.

I am running into a problem with running an OS X server and trying to get N64 cores. I think I saw a few more having the same problem as me. If anyone has a fix I’d love some advice!

Libretro doesn’t actually host any macOS builds of the n64 cores. I have a ticket open to hide cores from unsupported platforms to prevent you from trying to download something that doesn’t exist. If you happen to find the core yourself you can sideload it and Core Manager will see it and make sure it stays in the XML mapping as you download new cores.

Hey guys! Thank you for that wonderful little helper vanstinator. I’m craving to play my N64 games on Plex, but I can’t seem to get past the error

“The core mapping file is missing a core for Nintendo 64.
Fehlercode: 8003 (Game Setup)”

What I did was to put either .dll file of the 2 N64 files into the “GameCores” folder where my PMS saves its data. I tried rescanning the library, tried different .dlls but I can’t seem to get it working. Could anybody help me with that? I’m desperate to play  Kind regards <3

EDIT: Do I need to restart PMS so it will be able to pick up the .dll files? Unfortunately, no

This is cool but its way too much screwing around to make it work. Will revisit when its more stable/reliable.

I tried this and they just won’t run. What entries did you make for Neo Geo in you XML file??

Nothing fancy, just the MAME core:

Mapping platform=“Arcade” core=“mame_libretro”

I was hoping it was something different. I tried that but nothing. When I run the game (Metal Slug) all I get is the spinning circle. Thanks though!

it sounds like you need to add the entry for this platform to the core mapping file.
